Hello,

How diffrent is the test bike from say a rvf,gsx basically a powerful sports bike,

I know it's a 125 touring 20 years old bike, But can you go from this to a sports bike. Like going from a metro to a porche. Once you know gears/clutch you can do it on anything? Thumbs Up

Much Thanks

once you know gears its all easy peasy

bit of practice on a new bike and its fine

one thing is tho the riding position is different, altho i find a sports bike easier to balance as its weight seems more forward and easier to manage

i never liked the cg125s on my test, felt unstable

one thing you will notice is the accleration differnece from a 125 to a 400+

what lots of people suggest is to pick it up and spend a while riding about back roads near before taking it home get used to the feel of it a bit

all bikes are pretty similar i think, i cant really find a difference between an RS125, ZXR400, TL1000 and CBR400

other than power delivery and clutch position(biting point)

Less effort on the right hand, don't wind it on straight away! You'll loose it!

Just take your time, start slow and smoth and build it up gradually! Don't be tempted t just let rip to 100, as you'll hit something or loose it on gravel. Trust me, I've seen this happen a few times!

Everything about the bike will feel miles different, depending on what you have ridden before, the hardest things to get used to will be the body position an a sports bike, and the out rite performance through the whole package, brakes will have bags more power, turn in will be much quicker.

As everyone has said just take it easy until you are used to it, before you know it you will be using more and more of the bikes abilitys. Im not a big fan of going from a 125 to a large sportsbike in one step, its a big one to take, still alot of people get on with it ok.

going from a 125 to a big sportsbike is always gonna be better than going from a car to a big sportbike which is the way most das people go

Done my 1st day today of training Very Happy I'm the only one doing it every one else was on cbt, Met a great guy we talked about 1st person shooters on the xbox all day (hes 32 Laughing)which helps on ya test so does a funny instructer, Theres one instructer who is a complete dick!

I could barley get going as i stalled everytime, Then i got the hang of it as i was letting the throttle go at the biting point so it stalled, At the end i was going around the tiny carpark on me own and had no pressure and only stalled a few times, The figure of 8 was the hardest for me as i wasn't going wide enough and kept getting peed off lol with the clutch. Smile

Go on the road tomorrow i'm still a bit weiry of pulling out on a junction as i can only do it very slow to find the biting point, Any tips for finding it faster Smile

Ya so keep yall posted. Thumbs Up

P.S

I think i'm not sure but i heard him say i need to do clutch control when i'm doing a bend, If so why because i can go round there without the clutch. I probably got this wrong tho Embarassed

Glad your having fun m8 Very Happy You'll get used to the clutch soon and you will be able to pull off faster but not too fast! Razz
On my cbt they spent ages on clutch control before we went on the road and it helped alot, i was always wanting to let it all the way out and use the throttle to just go out at junctions etc. But it was much smoother and more controlled to slip the clutch to get round, ive been practising my clutch control on my vstrom at work, getting ready for my test on the 20th. Praying Have you passed the theory yet ??

Get anything vaguely powerful after having done the restricted test and you'll shit yourself the first time (and lots of times after) you redline it in first and second. Fun though. Twisted Evil

If you revise you wont fail, the questions are a joke. Just practice the hazard perception bit and you'll be sorted. Cool

I completed me cbt today he didn't even tell me it as the cbt so that was good, Spent all day on the road didn't stall once apart from the u turn Smile Emergency stop was good as the cg125 made in the 13th century brakes are crap so no matter how hard you brake it will still roll lol. 3 days left & i need to work on going right in the corner when aproaching junctions or roundabouts etc. The ear piece f***in hurts after a while!

Ah theory tomo Sad I will try to revise tonight.

Thumbs Up

Passed me theory this morning Smile & went all around catford, Brixton all busy places. Was another boy on a 125 having little races when we was behind the instructer Embarassed

Like i said when i 1st got there i couldn't even pull away, Today i had to do it on a completly diffrent bike & found the biting point right away Only stalled once & we did 20 miles today was out for about 3 hours & i think i'm beginning to know exactly where my biting points are on hills etc, I'm pleased with e stops & u turns, I'm amazed how far i've come from not knowing anything to being able to know exactly where my points are what gear etc. Obviously still a far way to go but at least now i can say i can ride a geared bike,

Thumbs Up

I'd rather fail me bike test then the theory Smile

Ah day 4:

Didn't go to well even tho i got all A's & 4 B's he said i need 1 more lesson, I don't really care as 1 more lesson will help even more Smile

I'm pleased still as i can ride a geared bike now know biting points off by heart, Said i have to work on my f***n right foot down when stopped, Observe & accelerating faster ( If i accelerated any faster i'd be in moto gp)

Just gotta wait till next week to do me test now wich is a pain but can't do anything now! Thumbs Up

As for the clutch control going around corners - This is used for going around slow corners. This way is much smoother than using the throttle alone. You try increasing your speed just a fraction by using only the throttle on a 160BHP+ bike Wink

Slipping the clutch gives you a much smoother and controllable power delivery.
