 |
|
Hi, i have a few questions on legal stuff todo with my zxr400, basically the old engine was old and tired so i brought a second hand one which had been rebuilt not that long ago, anyway the old engine had done from, the clock, about 45K. new one is 20K. Well when i come to sell the bike i don't want people to think its gone that far!
What is the law on engine and speedo changes, i know its illegal to turn clocks back but is it ok as its a different engine now as it saves me getting a new clock! But i don't want to break the law.
Also can some send me a photo of an L model zxr 400 under the tank please as i've forgot how to connect the carbs to tank etc and the manual is crap for this bit
thanks Andy |

I don't think clocking in itself is illegal, but presenting the vehicle for sale and claiming the clocked mileage as genuine is. If you clocked it, you would have to cover the mileage with a piece of black tape and state exact mileage unknown when you did so. Same as if you have to replace the clocks after a crash.
I have told this story before. A guy I know of decided to take a few miles off his 250 superdream before selling it on (it had done over 50k miles). He removed the back of the clock only to find "Oh no, not again!" written on the inside of the speedo housing. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

Ok then, answer this one.
I need new speedo on my ZZr, so I'll be replacing the whole clock unit.
Bike has done 32k. If I were to get a set of clocks with say, 70k on them, can they be changed to the correct mileage of the bike?
Surely they can as the bike has original engine and done 32k, not 70k ____________________ Past: Honda NSR125R >> Kawasaki ER-5a2 >> Kawasaki ZZR-600e1 >> Suzuki GSXR-750Y >> Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm

at stinkwheel, think i will leave the old clock alone and just by a 20k clock off ebay and keep the 45k one with the box of spares.
Actually there is a big hole in the law, as if you were to buy a frame and v5, engine, and clocks (all legal off different bikes) and build them up how could you quote the geniune mileage as then surely if the the frame carriers the mileage then why don't you get the speedo with the frame
Thing is you don't even know if the miles on your bike are geniune to start with, the law sucks and isn't very clear! |

Most Kawasaki Speedo’s can’t be fiddled with because there a sealed unit, Honda on the other hand its only six screws holding the clock in place and the face plate on the Speedo.
l change the clocks on my VFR400 NC24 because the rev counter had died, out of boredom l striped them down and found "oh no not again" scratched into the back of the Speedo cover. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Yip, there are loads of places in Glasgow that do it, some will even sell you the equipment to do it yourself.. Mileage correction Must be a nightmare when you suddenly realise your mileage is 'incorrect'! |
