Ooops! Dammit!! Dropped my Bike!!!

I dropped my Varadero 125 today . Bike almost got away scot free except for my front brake lever which snapped in two. Still rideable but am obviously going to have to replace said lever. Is it an easy job or are we talking bleeding brakes and other such technical gubbins. Any advice would be appreciated.

ifs its just the brake lever you should be able to do change it easily for a new one with out tampering with the fluids

Thanks. Got a new lever ordered up today from David Silver Spares only £8.50. The only other damage was my pride!

Ive done it myself, on a cambered road, honda cbr6 nd a 10st rider. Once it started to go i never had a chance. Got away really lucky because the bar end hit the kerb and kept the rest of the bike off the ground.

My best mate has doe it too, slipped on some shitty gravel outside work and sacrificed his leg to save a fairing ( ) but he's bigger than me!

Happens to the best of us mate, accidents happen and hopefully we learn and with any luck it wont happen again. At least it wasnt a brand new 7k bike or something, that would have devastated me!

When I bought my bike, we strapped it on to the back of my mates trailer (he has one of those huge trailer things)

Anyway it was all secure but unfortunatly my mate had to do an emergency stop and the whole bike went flying forward and fell over.

I was so pissed off, just bought the bike which was 5 years old and had no damage at all throughout its time then I get my hands on it and break it

Anyway the damage was as follows snapped clutch lever, dent in petrol tank (luckily not very visable), smashed mirror and the worst was the bust starter motor

Anyway it gave me something to do for 2 weeks, live and learn I suppose.
All fixed now so i'm happy again

By saying that you already have a new lever, then you might already found something valuable as replacement motorcycle parts. Still, replacing the lever and all won't get you into a situation wherein you won't drop your bike ever. Dropping your bike is what you could call an enthusiast's occupational hazard. Just keep your cool and learn from the experience

Personally, I think there's a difference between 'dropped' and 'put down'.

IMO 'dropped' means the bike hit the floor from a vertical position and usually causes significant damage, whereas 'put down' means the bike started toppling and you did your best to prevent it hitting the floor.

I'm a very short and weak person and, before I passed my test, I put my foot on the floor as normal when my CG125 came to a halt. Unfortunately, the floor to my left was far lower than the ground the wheels were on. Result? The bike over-balanced and started to fall to the left. Fortunately, I shuffled my left leg out of the way of the bike and held on tight to the bars. There was no way in this world I was going to be able to hold the bike up. But the final result was that I actually managed to 'put' or 'place' the bike on the ground, with no damage whatsoever.

We all live and learn. But I'm afraid these situations are virtually unavoidable.

Not jinxed myself yet. I've come close a few times, going over ice and the like. It's one of the joys of all year riding. I think it's been a mixture of luck and strong legs to push the bike back when it's started to go!!

I've no doubt in my mind that at some point or another I'll end up sliding down the road on my arse, or laying on the road with my bike on top of me!

Still trying to figure out the sans francisco thing. My brain isn't in gear today!!

I managed to cath the gs500 I was doing my DAS on on a few occasions. Good strong legs from cycling stoped me dumping it down on a mini roundabout. The instructor behind me was a little too close and his hit the floor.

Lucky the learner bikes always have a stash of spare levers in them...

Not even started riding yet. I am very certain i will bin it during lessons though!

I don't know what is worse.. the thought of dropping a bike before I pass any sort of test. Or the BF telling me to learn to drive a car first because in some ways it's cheaper and I can use his car rather than having to pay for a bike and all the gadgets to go with it.

I don't want to drive a car lol.. I want to ride
