Someone just told me about the new laws coming in for bikes?? this may be somewhere on here alredy but aint checked.

Apparently they are changin it to having to do ur full test, being restricted for 2 years to a 33bhp, then have to pay and take test again to then ride a 49bhp motorbike for 2 years and then ur allowed what u want. Is this true, and if so who the fuck thought of it. Plus if they do this, surely summit should be thought of for cars too... Evil or Very Mad

yes the current 33bhp limit won't be around for long. i heard they were plaaning to bring it in for all ages followed by a possible second probationary period.
I remember the older bikers whining when it was suggested saying it would give a very limited selection of bikes, as you'd not even be able to ride a full power RS125.

Now they know how us young'ns feel! Evil or Very Mad

Sorry, but I believe that further motorcycle tuition is required for new riders to start learning to ride. I don't want less riders getting on 2 wheels, or to make it any more difficult, but there's far too many youngsters doing their CBTs at 16 and riding like complete lunatics. In a car you have an instructor/fully qualified driver with you at all times - why should it be any different on a bike? They are far more dangerous and the amount of youngsters getting into accidents is scary.

Riding around a car park and then relearning a cycling test does not make a well educated, safe rider. I'm currently considering getting some further advanced training before I 'upgrade' to my next bike - despite riding for over 6 years (70,000miles plus) and only having 1 accident.

Hi

From an interview with the road safety minister in MCN it looks like the test is being changed to make it far more difficult to get a licence if you are under 24.

Here is the BMF press release about it.

All the best

I don't quite understand this, can you or someone else rephrase it?

So are these new rules being introduced in 2008?

I agree that some limits should be placed on new riders. It makes sense to me. Whether or not age should be taken into account or not I am not sure - but young people are naturally more likely to take risks, its just human nature.

However, it smacks of double standards when a 17 year old will learn to drive and take a test in a 1.1 Micra, then go straight from the test centre and LAWFULLY be able to get into his parents 3 litre sports car. Evil or Very Mad

It would make more sense to me to stiffen the rules around car drivers than to reinforce the already tighter biking limits.

Think he means that there would be no direct access, and if you beleive the power claims that some people (NOT Aprilia) make for the RS125 then it is over to power to weight ratio allowed for a probationairy licence.

All the best
