Now I know it will consume more fuel as it's a bigger engine, but I'm surprised by the difference.

When I hit low and put the equivalent amount of fuel in my R1 as I did my ZX-6R then proceed to ride it in the same efficient manner round town, I'm getting around 20 miles less by the time the fuel light comes on again.

I know this is partly due to petrol prices, but didn't think there would be that much difference in comparison.

It must really drink fuel if you're thrashing it round a track.

Not as much fuel for your money.

But if you're topping up your tank to the top regardless of cost, the price of the petrol won't effect how far your going on a tank..

That aside I'm still getting noticeably less MPG and didn't think there would be too much difference when riding steadily.

I read in a bike mag that at higher speeds such as motorway cruising, a 1000 engine will give better fuel economy as it doesnt rev so high.

They had different bikes racing round the M25 and it was a carb fed r1 that did the best i think for fuel economy at the speeds they were going. The r6 wasnt as good for fuel economy at those speeds.

40mpg average on an '04 GSX-R 600. 30mpg average on an '00 YZF-R1. Same frequency and type or riding. Same gas. Same time of year.

Should give you a decent idea. Thumbs Up

I know it's a different point but I'm guessing you didn't buy a litre sports bike for the fuel economy. Wink

I wonder which bike will apply this engine.

My 750 will do about 120 miles on the road, and 80-90 on the track (give or take).

I'm guessing the Goldwing would be first, possibly followed by the VFR. Possibly.

I hope CBR1000 next to them!

I have done some calculations and based on the last time I filled up (88.9p per litre) and mileage I would be getting approximately 44 miles to the gallon from the ZX-6R and I got 36 from the R1, so 8 miles difference. It doesn't seem as bad when you look at it like that.
