Whilst at Skegness (Lincolnshire) visiting an old friend, this was parked in his neighbours drive. This is her second one in 5 years costing £36k, managing a measley 4mpg. She told me she had only ridden it twice in the last year lol. Wouldn't say no though. Thumbs Up

Very ugly and very brutal, though not as much so as a Nissan Skyline is! Yes it would be nice to drive on a track, but id rarther have my turbocharged cars 2wd, with 1/2 the transmission power losses, and without the need to have 300bhp just to keep up like Impreza Sti's and Evos. A Fiat 20v Coupe would be much more fun, and much more sexy too, not to mention 25mpg+ driven sensibly.

She could probably afford it been stuck on the drive all year round since she is a farmer, probably recieving far to much subside (sp) money Mad Infront of the Lancer was a newish Land Rover Discoverery and there were two brand new Ford Transit vans parked on the street that belonged to her too. Rolling Eyes I suppose the Lancer is more of a Sunday morning 'toy' to her.

The EVO vs Impreza argument is one of those age old arguments that no one agrees on, so i won't go there. All id say is that ive heard about equal good and bad about both, and i can understand why you might say the EVO is better, but then there are alot of people who say the Impreza is the the car and the engine to have. Good and bad with both id say, but i just don't like 4wd cars for road use. Where's the fun in that?

Nice car. I wonder why Mitsubishi doesn't make all cars as seriously as Evos.

4mpg, yeah right, artics get more than that. Even a Hummer manages 9mpg. EVO's do about 18mpg minimum running on full boost, Imprezas the same. And the boxer engines aren't "weak" at all, they're only 2litre, you need at least a turbo to get any power from them, the designs of the engine is a tradeoff between performance and cost, compare the cost of these 4drs to sports cars. If they were going for all out speed and performance theyd cost £50K and being using a 3litre supercharged engine or similar.

Yeah, I was thinking the 4mpg was pish too. Must have a leak in the fuel system if that's the case Laughing

Even an old XJ6 would do more than that.

Impreza engines are weak, especially the 3rd cylinder unless you've got an equal length manifold but then that gets rid of the burble. Not to mention what happens if you try for top speed.

Impreza & the evo are similar cars (evos much better) Alot of gypsys drive imprezas now so thats off putting, The evo is one of the nicest cars for me, Damn fast too!

Wasn't the evo once the fastest car to 60mph?

we had a red one come into our school carpark, and everyone who knew anything about cars just stopped and stared.

When it pulled off it made a VERY nice noise too.

And evos can manage about 8-9 mpg Thumbs Up

You can get 600bhp+ Impreza's now as they have designed a new turbo and manifold that re-locates the blower so that theres enough room for the size of turbo you need for that kind of power. The Subaru engine is strong like alot of japanese factory turbocharged engines, but of course it does have it's weaknesses and limitations as well, which are different to those on the EVO. The EJ25 2.5litre engine can be fitted and with a high spec build it's capable of over 500ib/ft and monster grunt in the midrange. The EVO is probably better in terms of the underbonnet layout, and the less complicated routing of the pipework, turbo position and the fact that there's much more room around the engine bay than the flat 4 Subaru unit. I have heard that the latest EVO8 motor with MIVEC is rumoured to not be so strong or tuneable as the earlier engines, but then when it can still make 350bhp+ it's kind of irrelavent to anyone but race car builders.

Yeah, the 4-9 MPG range is most likely what it is pulling... The Boxer motor is extremely good on torque and sounds fabulous. The fastest standard Impreza currently is the WRX STi ‘WR1’, with 320 horsepower, 10 less than the fq-330, but it produces it at a full 1000 RPM less. It also produces it's maximum torque, 5 lb/ft less than the Evo, at 4000 RPM, 1000 RPM less than the Evo.

Performance stats show that the Impreza is slightly faster than the Evo to 60 and 100 MPH, as well as being more driveable and the power more usable. It is also 2 grand cheaper than the Evo.

Sorry about this, I just though that the Impreza was getting ass raped and needed some defending...

P.S. anyone pointing out that the fq-400 is faster should remember that it is £20,000 more expensive.

Yes but it's still bloody useful in the world of 4 wheels. And with 4wd to waste, sorry distribute the power it's quite alarming how much real world faster the STI etc is than the majority of cars out there for a point to point drive. No one but a fool tries to compare bike performance with cars, but a good driver in a 4wd car like that on a wet, greasy road would quite possibly climb all over the back of alot of sportsbike riders in those conditions.
