 |
|
So....I'm on my way home from work, its dark, and its raining so I'm taking it easy. On the way down an NSL road, doing somewhere between 50 and 60 mph, I spot just coming into headlight range, two frickin' great big horses.
Now headlight range isn't that long, so smooth 'take it easy in the rain with 014s on' style gets binned and I miss the back end of these two horses by what can only be described as 'not very frickin much!'
The reason for the subject of this topic...black or brown horses, dark clothing, no reflective gear at all. By all means cross the road on your horse, but if you're gonna do it at night on a 60mph limit road wear something bright FFS. If I had been in a car, I'd have hit them, no question, they just were not visible, couldn't see them at all in the mirrors once I'd past them.
/rant - sorry
Alex. |

Whenever I see horses on the road I -
- Beep my horn
- Flash my lights
- Give them the finger
- Shout loudly and swear
- Killswitch Backfire
it usually works at keeping them away!
Of course I am only joking, I slow down and move out but I still hate the bastards ____________________ Bike: Suzuki Bandit 600, 2002, Blue

Paracaine,
These have been done by me:
- Beep my horn
- Flash my lights
- Give them the finger
- Shout loudly and swear
Bastard things getting in way. Whats even worst is the big fecking combines that take up both lanes. ____________________ ◙◙► K6 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 1000 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► 96 RF600r ◄◙◙

What annoys me is when you're going slow as you safely can, no revs to keep it quiet, pulled out onto the other side of the road, and they still glare at you and shout to slow down.
One day I will stop and tell them that maybe I'll take their "advice" seriously when they have licences and pay road tax.
Think they own the road.

I've never ridden a horse but does anyone here want to have a guess as to what roads were first made for?
They should have been wearing reflective clothing, simple as. Therye fault completely.
When normally coming up against irate horse riders remember that they have probably had umpteen bikes fly past at unsafe speeds and they have decided to take it out on you by chance. Much like getting cut up by cagers then giving the 10th one a bollocking, or they could just be asshole riders.
Also try to consider that really they dont have control over the horse ultimately, if a horse wants to go ballistic and run for that daisy field it will, it's a living creature in it's own right. Should the horse decide to go ballistic it could cause you some serious damage should it hit you so it's in your interest to stay clear normally (though people here seem to ).
Basically they can be a nuisance but they are allowed to use the roads and therefore theyre going to, get used to it and learn how to deal with it calmly. ____________________ Pictorgraphicalfantastical |

We get plenty of them round here, although they don't seem to ride at night. They ride 1 abreast, wear noticeable clothing, stay well in, and are very courteous to everybody who takes the time to pass slowly and safely.
Nothing against them, that's their hobby, a loud, fast, dangerous one is ours. |

Sounds good to me, plus the added benefit of feeling like a big man!
(We all know you go back down to 26mph once you're out of earshot.) |

OH hell yeah, do you know how dangerous 30mph is! And leaning around corners!
I'm just glad I always manage to find an excuse not to go on rideouts or my mates would see that I've never done over 40mph, have chicken strips 6cm wide, and do infact wobble upright round every corner whilst hanging off and shitting it!

What annoys me most, is that when you are going down a country lane only wide enough for one car at a time, and they are there, chatting away, riding two abreast so no one can pass safely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
