Sounds logical but unlikely....

Snapped my clutch cable last night - made for an interesting ride home Rolling Eyes

Anyone know anywhere in the London and surrounding (north) area that I maybe able to purchase a new one, or am I going to be bike-less until Mon/Tues?

If you can't find anywhere to get one you could get a push bike inner cable (£2 for 6 foot) from Halfords and a screw on nipple (about 20p). Run the cable inside your outer cable, cut to the correct length and screw the nipple on.

Bit of a bodge but it works fine and will last you untill you can get a proper cable.

Smile I did think about that possibility, but I thought I would throw the chance for suggestions to the masses first.

If I have no luck by midday, Halfrauds will be getting a few quid from me.

If you have a Hein Gericke local to you, give them a ring and see. My local doesn't stock a massive range of spares, but they have the more common stuff in stock and are about the only bike place open on Sundays.

Well, not for the first time, and doubtfully anywhere near the last time, Bendy provides the gem of information.

Local Hien Gericke supplied me a universal clutch cable, for just £2.99.....

Bargain.

Thanks all for your help.

Its only the inner so its smaller and easier to fit in an emergency. It might help some other biker stuck on the side of the road. Could be used for other stuff.

Hi

Hien Gericke sell a small emergency cable tin. About £5. Size of a tin of shoe polish (or am I showing my age talking of shoe polish coming in tins). Contains 2 inner cables (2 different sizes) and a selection of solderless nipples.

All the best

Keith

Clutch cables ...... its so nice riding a bike with a hydraulic one, countless times did I breakdown with snapped cables, then one day the heavens oppened up when I got my first hydraulic clutch assisted MB, it was a GPZ1100...since then havnt looked back but my biggest fear is loosing the throttle cable cos on my present bike it would be a nightmare to replace, even in a gargage.

If you can get at the bottom end of it, you probably find you can use either the 'close' branch of the throttle cable or the choke cable to get you home.

Alternatively, if it breaks at the top nipple (which they usually do). Fix the cable outer to the fork leg/top yoke and the remains of the inner to the outside of your twist grip using jubilee clips or cable ties. Use the throttle in the normal way (but gently).

It is worth having a couple of solderless nipples in the pocket of your leathers.
