Hi,

Didn't realise I did this until the girlfriend caught me doing it the other day!

Was just walking down the high street, unaware I was nodding to the bikes that were passing until Sarah asked, "did you just nod at that bike?", I'm like, "No Shifty ", but then I think about it and realise I did!!! Laughing

So, I wonder how long this has been going on for Confused Wonder what other people on the street are thinking? "Christ - he knows all those bikers!!!" Laughing

So, do you do it? Intentionally or just from habit? did you realise you do it?

Bet you're all wondering if you do or not now!!!

I sometimes do it instead of shaking hand only when I'm riding. I don't think I do it as pedestrian, but I must check me today.

I was at the bus stop (I now hate public transport) and I saw two bikes go past. I was dying to nod, but didn't think it was kosher without some kind of bike related equipment with you. Embarassed

I confess to the occasional nod to bikers whilst walking along the road, though mainly because there are just so many of them along the road I take to walk to work. You just can't help yourself... Well, I can't.

As for nodding back to pedestrians, it's habitual. If someone nods to me, especially whilst I'm riding, I have to nod back. Have to!

As a pedestrian I always nod at other pedestrians, I feel that it gives a nice community feel, sort of "we are all pedestrians together". If I see a fellow pedestrian stopped by the side of the pavement I will slow down and check if they are OK, usually with a thumbs up. Often they are only stopped to look in a shop window, but occasionally they have broken down. Only the other week I helped out an old chap who had snapped his shoe lace, luckily I was carrying a spare. I offered him a piggy back to the nearest Timpsons, but he said he would be OK.

I do it daily..in the car, walking, on a bus, I can be wherever.
As I am on the bike a lot for commuting, I get the habit firmly rooted in my mind, and I cannot stop myself.

Quote:
did it on a push bike once some how forgetting that I was on the push bike, the biker just gave me a funny smile and nodded back

Ha..now that's funny Mr. Green

Yep sure do . Often tend to get a nod back as well, so long as they see you.
Especially if I have me gear on.
I think this is like a nod loophole actually and something I regularly take advantage of. I figure they have no idea I ride a shitty 250 on my Ls and will assume because Im nodding them I ride something similar.
Usually works and I have a giggle to myself thinking If I passed you on the road , you would turn your nose up at me.
Me 1 them 0 woohooo

I find that everybody thinks that anyway!

I get it all the time off random people in pubs:

'My friend's daughter's boyfriend has got a bike too, do you know him?'

Rolling Eyes Confused Laughing

It amuses me when people wearing the 'faux biker gear' that the fashion industry put out a year or so ago nod at me, or wave and point to their clothing. What do they want? A biscuit?

I haven't caught myself nodding at bikes on the street yet, but I will check..... Embarassed

Only do it on the bike, I seperate the two for one reason and one reason only, safety as I dont do it all the time on the bike if on a slight bend, no matter how slight I will not nod nor at a junction waiting to move out, nowhere where it requires more attention than the norm, if on a straight then yes, if there isnt tons of cars about, I think safety 1st as this will save me not a niddy nod...
