Law on Mini and midi motos

what happens if u get caught riding them either on road or on pavement? apart from it beeing crushed?

You can get done for riding with no tax/mot/insurance, for riding on the pavement and all sorts of others things if they feel like it I suspect.

If you are under 16 chances are you will just get told to go somewhere else and be threatened that your parents will be in trouble if you do it again. Over 16 I'm not sure, they can probably put something on your license.

Hi

The bikes are not legal for use on the road. Virtually nobody will have insurance on them. And I am sure they can think up a shed load more things to charge you with.

monkey bikes are road legal. they are a bit bigger than a midi moto but lower power.

i doubt you could make a mini moto road legal but im not sure why

mini motos are only about as fast as a pushbike so are no more dangerous, and if you come off you are nearer the ground so you dont have so far to fall, so it doesnt hurt as much.

The only reason i can think of for justifying allowing pushbikes on roads and not mini motos is cos of visibility.

i think a car park which isnt being used, is a better bet than the pavement

I heard on newsround quite a while back that some 12 year old kid got 3 points on thier license (should they chose to acquire one 5 years down the line) for riding a motorised scooter down the road. The manchester police said that it's classed as a powered 2 wheeler and thus, should be used off road. He will need to be licensed to use it on road with tax and insurance. What right c*nts. This isn't even a mini-moto!

My brother got done for being on one.
Also unless you have express written consent you can't ride them on say a field. And as the council will never say yes you get done.
Also actually applies to private land as well now apparently.
You can also be prosecuted under the new anti social laws which means they can confiscate it there and then.

Why would you want to ride them things? I can understand racing them at a track but just riding them on a road is rather ridiculous... :O

Just saw some kid pushing a monkey bike up the road with no lightings, indies or brake lights, and get on it, fire it up (with no gloves, boots, clothing or helmet) and go up the road... couldn't see him from 5 metres away...

My brother wants to ride "real" bikes but hasn't got a hope in hell now as he has 6 points.

mini motos and the like are the same as mopeds in the eyes of the law...

therefore you need a licence, insurance and road tax... mot technically too if age can be proven.

if you ride (eg under 16) , you would commit at least..

riding otherwise than in accordance with a driving license
no insurance
no tax
(no mot)

and likely fail to produce license, fail to produce insurance, mot ...

not to mention HOW the mini moto is ridden..

many people think that they are safe on a car park or public park...
however the highways act extends to road or other public place... (eg a place to where the public has access)...e.g. the car park of a public house in opening hours is deemed to be a public place.

keep it to the track or with permission of a friendly private land owner.

However also be aware that there is new legislation (section 59 Police reform act 2002) whereby if a vehicle is used in such a way likely to cause harassment alarm or distress to the public, it can be seized if an initial warning is not adhered to.....
