Today i received a letter from AXA claims inspector

bassically the letter says " Claim made against you by pitney bowes Ltd Motor Accident 6th December"

It then says the other party says uou collided with the rear of their vehicle"

i have phoned the number to see what is going on and the guy i spoke to says he wants a meeting with me but doesnt know much about what has happened.

I have not been involved in any accidents and dont know what the fuck is going, does it sound genuine? should i arange to meet the guy? and who are pitney bowes Ltd.

It says if i dont confirm my recollection of the events within the next 7 days they will pass my details on for the other poaty to deal with me directly, which i think would be better because they are making somethinge up

Is AXA your insurance company? Is it an official letter? My advice, contact customer service asap and confirm you have not been involved in an accident, nevermind one supposedly almost a year ago.

That is all you need to do for now, and I imagine it will go no further.

Hi

Any mention on the letter of your vehicle involved? Did you even own that vehicle at the time?

Contact your insurance company directly on the normal number you use, not the one on the letter. This way hopefully you can confirm that it is genuine.

All the best

Keith

Bennetts are not an insurance company, they're an insurance broker.

Call Bennetts and speak to someone there about it to find out whats happening, confirm to them that you were not involved in an accident on 6th December last year.

Hi

Pitney Bowes seem to make franking machines, with other companies with virtually the same name doing "mailing solutions". Suspect it was one of their company vehicles that is claiming you hit them.

Speak to the company you were insured with at the time and try and find out more details.

With no previous communication for 9 months and no evidence I do not think that much can come of this.

All the best

Keith

Quite a few people have been getting these letters, it seems like some new con going around.

Don't meet anyone in person without a solicitor present. Record any phone conversations (tell the other person you are recording it), and do any correspondance by letter if possible.

Somone is probably trying it on. A few stern letters seems to see them off and i've never heard of one getting as far as court.

If it is genuine and someone has given your details (usually someone you know) or has cloned your car you should be able to stop it at the first hurdle by proving you were elsewhere.

weird!

was someone else on your bike maybe? or did you sell it without tranfering details of tax?

bit worried as i sold my old bike without doing that and i know its used for off road racing now. hopefully they sorted out the tax.

hope this isnt a craze catching on for people to make money off others.

Lots of this goes on, it is more than likely a mis key by some dumb person doing data entry in a hurry.

Try and find out where you were on the day they mention as back up, but try not to worry too much. A year is a little long to be now writing to you!

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES meet with anyone, that is not normal procedure, no insurance company official other than a loss adjuster....which would not be applicable in this case due to the time!! - would need to meet with you.

Ring them and give them a piece of your mind. If in doubt contact local old bill........say you are concerned about the origin of the letter if it doesnt stack up once you have called them.

listen to these people, it is good advice. working in insurance i can tell you this is not normal procedure. the insurance company of the 3rd party should liase with your insurers, not you. get your insurer in on the game, and if necessary the old bill (this could be fraud or counterfeiting)
