My bike is not working due to a wire coming loose which connects to the ignition,so was pushing my bike up the road to the local honda dealer with my brother, a car pulled up and said "excuse me lads " were the police ok so we put the bike on the stand he sais" a lot of high powered bikes have been stolen lately and then we see you pushing this up the street" so fair enough i think

usual stuff " is the bike registered to you " "yeah"

"any id" showed him my licence

"where abouts do you live?" so i told him

while one of them checks out the bike

"that a race can is it?" "yeah but its still got the baffling in it" (and the not for road use has been buffed out)

"yeah the bikes alright" (the tax disc is actually out of date but they didn't mention it so neither did i)

so off i went /no mention of the tax, 33bhp licence, or the race can Cool Cool

good to see the cop shop concentrating on real crime in your area. no mention of minor issues, all good. but i would tax it if i were you.

I am pretty sure you don't need one if you are taking the bike for a pre-arranged repair. This is because you could be fixing it so you can get an MOT which in turn allows you to buy a tax disc.

Personally I think it's a good thing that they stop checked him, its only a slight inconvenience and if he had been stealing the bike I'm sure the owner would have been very happy.

Rather suspicious sounding to me. One of the checks us coppers are taught to do is the Tax disc. Shocked

Lets just hope they were either bikers or too busy to bother!

Well whats the cost of a repair to the cost of the whole bike. If they're using a van anyway it wont matter! Razz

True enough, but they have no idea of the extent of the problem - It could need a new engine etc. etc.

They did look at the tax disc for a long time, but they were looking for bike theives and not out of date tax discs so didn't mention it, i also thought that it was good taht they did check it out as if it was being nicked i would want them to give it a once over and the problem is just a frayed wire which needs replacing and as for them nicking it now they have my adress etc i keep it in a lock up down the road so they would never find it anyway

I got stopped by a police van once when pushing my aprilia rs 125 up the road (coil/cdi had blew)

He pulled up, got out and straight away so "ok I know the bike isn't stolen as you would have dropped it and ran as soon as we came round the corner".

However, he did want to see proof it was my bike, lucky I had the log book in my pocket as I was actually pushing the bike to my mate who was buying it from me.

Quick look at the log book and off he went.

Lets face it though,

young lad pushing a bike down the road without riding gear on? Confused

Id check it out if i was a constable!

Besides you can push the bike on an out of date tax disk anyway cant you?

Id be happy to get a tug, because one day they will get a thief and if it was your bike stolen then youd be happy with it.

Thumbs Up

No. It is an offence to have an untaxed vehicle on the road, even if it is parked.

You are allowed to take it on the road if on the way too or from an MOT or pre-arranged repair though.
