is there a reason why sports bike riders rev loudly at the lights or is it purely posing ,I suspect the latter Wink

coming up to lights they may blip the throttle to aid down shifting, at the lights, maybe to:

1) let the cars know they are there (aid safety)
2) spin the engine up for a quick pull off
3) Posing (probably the more common)

The only reason I would ever rev at the lights is to pose. No other reason.

I held revs at 8000 at the lights with a Micron on Laughing
Battery was knackered so any less it would cut out.

Funny thing is the bike was half stripped as I rode 6 miles through the centre of town to the dealers. It was a struggle keeping the front end down! By heck I got some nasty looks! Laughing

Oh and Dodsi poses at the lights all the time, esp now he's got a big black thing between his legs - Luckily for me, i've had one of those for a while Laughing

I did it Today, lights went green and I shot off trying to keep the front end down. Muchos amusement to see everyone look in utter shock, however I didnt do the revving before hand just shot off.

When I had a dead battery in the RS I had to rev it to keep running if I had lights on as well.

Revving engines can also be used as a 'do you want to race' question.

I used to have to do it because my bike wouldn't tick over.

And even if it does tick over, I don't trust it not to stall, since it's only got a kick start.

Other than that, I do it to pose, or to question racers.

I do it primarily to pose, and the revs mysteriously rise when there's some nice girlies around Smile

Although I keep it at at least 2k anyway as I'm scared my 50 2stroke will cut out if I leave it to idle! (And it might not start again straight away!)

And it irritates the general public, which is part of owning a bike! Very Happy

I do it for one of two reasons -

1. To Show Off!
2. To initiate a race Twisted Evil

On the hornet I don't - It's jsut too loud to be honest, as has been said by several bystanders. I don't like being a nuisance, to toehrs and my ears. So, it's back to standard can time.

But with the sv, it'll be diferent. That isn't noise, it's music. Wink

My MT50 cut out idling when cold, so had to rev it.

Any other bikes, cause it makes you look big.
