Bike covers - are they worth it?

I ride my bike every day to work, and intend to ride it all year round. So it's going to get wet and mucky on a regular basis.

It's only a week old - I'm going to coat it with ACF-50 this weekend, and intend to hose it down at least weekly. The exhaust is stainless steel.

The bike has to be kept outside, currently at the back of the house where it can't be seen and is a pain to get out.

I have one of those Oxford covers, and I'm wondering if there's really any advantage in using it. I don't put the cover on when the bike's wet, so prolonged rain might mean it's not covered for several days.

I've noticed some fine scratching on the screen, caused I think by putting the cover on, so I wondered if on balance it was best just to keep it as clean as possible and not bother covering it.

Also - when I've got a ground anchor and chain I'm hoping to park the bike at the front of the house during the week so I don't spend ages getting it out every morning. Does anyone think a cover deters theft?

if it is covered up, its not as conspicuous, so unless the would be theif decides to take a peek, he wont think oh i like that, i'll nick it

well round here there would be no point in them, the shits nick petrol caps and grips and bar ends. A cover will be easier to steal so im sure they would have that.

I've gotta a oxford stormex cover, you can put it over a hot bike, it's black and 99% wqaterproof, well worth it.
