ay up people Thumbs Up Mr. Green
alrite alrite im ready to take some grief off you all!!! but basically i'm thinking about selling the er-5 before the winter hits and buying a car, after the miserable time i had riding through winter last year.
And then by the time next summer comes i will be off my restricted license and would be able to buy something bigger Twisted Evil i'm thinking of a zx-6 or maybe the new aprilia 450 super moto if its out.

what do you all think? whatever i do i will still b a biker through and through!! cheers all! Thumbs Up Mr. Green

Don't sell the bike yet, you'd be stupid to sell it at this time, no-ones buying, for obvious reasons. Can you afford to get a car on the cheap, keep the bike, and then flog your bike for a biggy when you've passed your test? WIth the car either staying with you, being sold for a small amount, or most likely, scrapped? Very Happy

If you can afford it, do what you like. I don't know how old you are but personally I couldn't justify (or plain afford) the stupid amounts of money you need to spend on insuring a car. If you didn't bother with one then assuming you're under 20 you've got an absolute minimum of a grand extra to play with when it comes to next summer's bike if you don't get the car for the winter.

The only time i drive the tin box is if there is snow/ice/frost on the roads. If the roads are white instead of black, I drive the box.

All other times I ride the bike.

I think I drove the car 6 times in total last year Laughing

Urm none of the above. I've only just got my bike and as I need my car for work I have the luxury of both. But people do keep telling me to pack my bike up for the winter and why did I tax it for a whole year ? But i figured that for those few and far between nice days in the winter I want to be able to ride and not worry about tax and things. so Ill just use my car more I think.

What age are you? A quote like that!!??
Crazy, although at 19 I was quoted £5500 for a Civic VTi !!

Cheap run about, keep the bike and still use it cuz you'll miss it after its away.

im 18. I really, really would love 2 keep the bike after all those hours and all that money i have spent on it. basically if i'm not riding it i'm usually taking it to bits lol. but i just won't be able to afford to run both! I know i would really miss it if i got rid of it but its just too much of a pain in the arse to ride through winter!

Thumbs Up Mr. Green

Have you got heated grips fitted?? If not then get them as it will be the best £60 you ever spend. If your hands and feet are kept warm you feel warmer all over Thumbs Up

No you don't, it's your 'core' that you want warm. Think, your blood circulates from your core constantly. If the blood in your hands and feet gets cold, it goes back to the core cold. So the whole of you gets cold. Put 4 or so layers on under a proper jacket, or if you want to spend £100 on keeping really warm, buy a heated waistcoat - keeps you toasty.

I can recommend keeping the bike whatever.

If you sell it and then buy another you just lose money. Its also nice to just have a bike there so you can go for a ride should you be so inclined.

But certainly car for the majority of winter. Its fucking cold.

actually the best way to keep warm is to buy 1 of thos goretex suites thats about £1000 and keeps your body temp to 37.5°c once it heats up to that ofcorse, or put on some "inner gloves" under the leather gloves and 2 pairs of socks i use these moto gp socks which are cool, there warmer than normal socks, and mabe 2 pairs of underware? and 2 pairs of some form of clothing you usually wear under the leathers or textile stuff (keep your hands and feet warm and the rest will stay warm as rookie pointed out)

Heated grips are great, they keep your hands warm whilst you are trying to pick your bike up after coming off on the ice. Gortex stuff is good to, you will be surprised how many bits of of your lovely bike you can fit in all those pockets! Just cos you don't ride in shit weather it does'nt make you less of a biker, it just means you are smart enough to know biking weather from not biking weather! You will probably live longer too! Wink Have a warm dry winter, oh and by the way i bought an old Hillman Avenger off ebay for £40 a bit of welding later and i have a tax exempt motor for rainy days, and classic insurance............£147 a year! Think about it Smile
