By adding tooths on the front sprocket, you will gain top speed, but lose acceleration.
By adding tooths on the rear sprocket, you will lost top speed, but gain acceleration.
I'm not too familiar with the NS125R, but on the NSR125, the standard sprockets are 13x35, so I changed to 14x36, which works great!
By the way, thanks alains for the sprocket advice, the bike gained a little top speed and the acceleration is still great! |

Well, give the alternates too...
by adding on the front / taking away on the back...
by adding on the back / taking away on the front...
1 tooth on front sprocket = 3 teeth on rear sprocket on the NS125R (I think)
So if you add 1 tooth to front sprocket it's equivalent of going down 3 teeth on the back...
Tend to get it nailed as close as possible by changing front sprocket, then go up or down 1 on the back to fine tune it... ____________________ FAB-Racing MiniMotoSidecars - Back with a vengeance - F1 Class 2011...

Hi
Depending on where you are riding it may be worth sticking with standard gearing.
While aiming for a higher top speed might be OK, and might well make the engine more relaxed on a long high speed journey, your bike might also not have the power to pull the higher gearing. Standard NS125s definatly had problems with this even on the stock gearing. Also round town it will make moving off slightly more tricky. Probably not a major problem, until you try doing a hill start with a pillion.
Likewise lowering the gearing for better acceleration might be great around town but a total nightmare for a long journey on a motorway.
I would (for now) stick with standard gearing and see how the bike feels. Sprockets are not expensive so you could consider buying a couple of extra ones at the same time to have a play.
Remember that changing the sizes of the sprockets may affect the length of the chain you need.
All the best

Aye, I've found no need to change gearing whatosever with mine and it suits for both town and motorway... ____________________ FAB-Racing MiniMotoSidecars - Back with a vengeance - F1 Class 2011...

although im not yet 17...... i just had to take mines a spin ! i live in mallaig so the police go home at 12am . so any way, i took it a spin and got 100mph out of it FLAT OUT !! i just changed the chain and sprokets before hand and they are standard at 13 on the front and 35 on the back.
Thats fast enough for me i would hate for the engine to seize at that speed ! ____________________ HONDA NS125R-K |
