Sometimes it depends on your area. There was a big list of area codes on here a while ago, someone should be able to find them Thumbs Up

Well, when I insured me RS125 last November, I got it for about £400ish with me being 24, just passed CBT and never ridden a bike before. Took a fair bit of (boring) ringing around for it. That was with DevittDA. Had been driving a car for about 5 years the same as you retro but I don't know whether they take that into account or not. Also with mine its garaged so it might help if you could keep the bike in a mate's garage maybe if you have'nt got one yourself.

Ring pretty much every company in the back of bike trader - only about 5 companies out of 40 or so give me good quotes, most are often twice as much as the 'good' five.

Remember that claiming on TPFT can be expensive - sometimes you can actually lose money, so might be worth looking at TPO and a big chain Smile.

Try an online search on the following site;

https://www.moneysupermarket.com/insurancedefault.asp

There's no short cut unfortunately; you just have to do the legwork and shop around. Insurance companies all have different profile templates for the type of business they want to write so some will want your business and others will price you away.

I'm also building up from a NIL bike NCB even though I've had a full car NCB for many years. I'm hoping that next year's premium will drop a fair amount but still not expecting that big a discount. You should find adding on bits of security eg Thatcham/ Sold Secure approved chain, ground anchor etc will help bring the premium down; might even be more than enough to pay for these security items.

thx fr the replies.... hoever if I acn't get a low enough quote I may be forced to sell the bike as I also own a car and running both would be too costly... insurance people are complete bastards who exploit the wrong people.... they should take a lot more into account when they quote rather than stereotype as I presume they do....

Well i'm 22 and passed my cbt 3 weeks ago, bought my bike two weeks after getting the cbt (2002 sachs xtc supersport). Most insurers were quoting me at £400-500 tpft. In the end i got it down to £195 tpft. There is a catch though, the excess is £500 but i doubt i'd ever bother claiming if it were stolen or set on fire. Its just not worth the hassle of higher premiums for the next 5 years.
