Although i have been riding for 3 years now, i have finally got around to booking some lessons and my test. Took my first lesson this morning. While chatting with the instructer, he mentioned that next year there are new laws coming in for bikes. Once you get your CBT (which we don't have in Northern Ireland yet) and then pass your test, you are restricted to a 125cc for a year, then a 250cc for a year, then a 350cc for a year and so on. I'm not sure if this only applies to Northern Ireland or what. Anyone else heard anything about this?

I heard of changes last year that meant it was going to cost in excess of £1000 to pass your test, 40 hours on a bike before your test and an off road section.....its not happened yet?

Evidence? I'm only telling you what a trainning instructer told me today. I think he said that once you get your 400cc year over, you can then get any bike you want.

I cant see that happening myself. This talk of trying to make the test so hard/complicated won't be in effect until 2011, if at all.

I passed my test in october.
However, may I suggestthat the "Royal Britannic Navy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the 2nd" formally declare war on Belgium and free our country once and for all from the stench that is European Law.

Could someone please explain to me why we fought Europe for years and now pull our trousers down and bend over for a load of Belgian politicians?

War I say, War!

(yes I think this country is in as bad a position as it is without europe making it worse).

The only difference between winning and losing world war two is we speak french now, not german.

I vote for independence from the European "union"

INDIPENDENCE! LONG LIVE THE QUEEN! Very Happy
(will be sober tomorrow - I think belgium is a lovely place to visit, but they are a pufta version of france, and france is a pufta version of us!

Who's in charge! Us! Evil or Very Mad .

When they lowered the learner legal laws to a 12hp 125 they have obviously realised that cc doesn't mean much. I doubt they would go back on it.

A 125cc bike with light tuning could easily make more power than say a 550 cruiser style bike.

Admitidly i wouldn't like that but if your honest it's not really that bad of an idea! not the whole going up in 100cc per year but not riding a big balls out bike just because you've got the money when your lacking experiance i know i ride a big bike, just because i can!

form the 20th september 2005 anyone wanting to take a bike test must stand balanced on an upturned milk bottle for 20 minutes whilst blindfolded, during this time the examiner will throw eggs at you and ask you a series of quick fire motorcycle maintenence questions

SHIT! I've got 2 days to pass! Crying or Very sad

That would be stupid, no-one would ever get to the litre bikes, the manufacturers would have a fit, not to mention the bikers. However I hear they want to bring in an extra year of restriction? By 2011?

Who comes up with all this? Confused Sounds like the instructor has been reading some MCN scaremongery. I haven't heard any plans for a stepped license system, though it would make sense to have the restriction gradually lifted.

My instructor told me some time ago (NI too) that in years to come they were gonna do something daft like 33bhp till you are 25 or whatever. Not quite sure how much truth was involved, all I can say is I've already got my license so I don't really care. Laughing

lets get it clear ! if all the rules and regs that our goverment have in line ACTUALLY come into fruition , then it will be easier and cheaper , to obtain a private pilots licence !! get it into yer heads now ! europe does not like you !! THEY think its easy to remove you from the equation ! through legeslation , and its working ... every year something else is added to the process of getting your full licence, think about it , 1st theory test 2nd hazzard perception , and now we,ve been told about all test centres closing ! in favour of super centres !! which you will take an off road (not on the dirt) course before you take the road test.. more time = more money ........
restricted licence for car drivers ? that would offend to many voters! the legeslation WILL be introduced, slowly , as not to offend to many people at once, but trust me ,,, it will come ... you are a pariah, a pest, you dont look good on statistics .. and thats what its all about
lets face it, we are in the minority , unless we unite ......... and make a stand and say no... but that would,nt be right , cos after all we are british ... and do as we,re told .......

sad heh Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad
