 |
|
hey just joined Joined the forum, looking for sum advise,,
Been riding my cbr400 (nc29) for past month or so had a few close
calls as you do running wide on corners locking wheels up.
Although scary iv felt in control of the bike during these situations.
But today really shuck me up!
I had been out riding for about 10mins when I came to a
roundabout, still waiting for the bike/tyres to warm I had been
following a French guy on a Goldwing at a steady pace on the road
before, we both whent straight on, as I came out of the round
about I saw a clear straight road ahead n thought id over take the
guy now rather than stay up his arse at the twistys comin up,
doing about 70mph I pulled out accelerated to about 90 as I was
passing him I noticed a “small” bump in the road so started pulling
in very sensibly for me anyway,, an then BANG!!!small bump in the
road turned out to be a very bad road surface joining that raised
the road by about half a foot. Felt like I was about 2 ft higher in the
air.. front came down before the rear, an the most horrific tank
slapper I have even seen commenced, I don’t know what I was
thinking while it was going on,, lasted a about 2/3 seconds but felt
like 5 mins! Waiting for the road to smack me in the face an hear
,that, noise “bike sliding down road” makes me shiver lol I gripped
the bars n held on.. life flashing before your eyes type stuff.
For sum reason the bike snapped back into shape an all was fine,,
ges god was on my side today guy on the Goldwing must have
thought I was crazy or stoopid lol or both
Anyway thers the story, what I wana know is what kind of
damaged could I have done to the bike.. it feels fine riding it
although cant say I was pushing that hard after said incident, but
was very violent the bars where hitting of both side of the yoke
stops, not to mention the initial jump. Any ideas of things to
check?
Also any advise for me/others of what to do when faced with this
again?…iv spoke to a friend who advised me if it happened again,
to pin the throttle, but that’s one of the last things id wana be
doing when careering out of control lol
Any advise or comments welcome.
PS. All previously mention events took place on private road and or
controlled conditions. ____________________ no sig, thats gay!! |

Check your rims and tyres, i reckon you'll have dented or chipped your rims. also, have a look at the axles, forks and yokes. If nothing is bent or fractured, you're a helluva lucky bloke!

rite just checked,, only thing i can see is a bit of snapped faring on the inside which i think was because a little black box "fuse box" has got sqishd between that faring an bottom yoke... onyl about 3"x3" missing tho no big deal.
oh don't worry i know how fucking lucky i am lol... i was wearing full textile suit but at 90mph, i dont even wana think about it.
i didn't take my feet of the pegs but i have done sumthing to my ankle, think i must have smacked it against the side of my bike. my wrists an sholderd r in a bit of pain aswel lol... ____________________ no sig, thats gay!! |

Go to the offending road, take some pics of that step. If there's some damage to your bike you might be able to claim against the dodgy road surface, which they will also have to repair. Of course, you were only going the speed limit when it happened.
Also I want to see it, to see just how bad it was! |

If there was no sign warning you of the road surface, you should be able to claim off the contractors carrying the work out. In which case, take 'em to the cleaners!

ohk,, had the bike apart the night took forks off, wheel an yokes apart
took me fucking ages but i had a good look all over an couldnt find any cracks that i could see, inspected all parts wheel didnt have a mark on it,, road was more of a steap bump rather than a sharp curb...
the weird noise i had noticed was one of the clipons had come loose an was making a noise betweent he locating pins on the top yoke..
break lines are in good order, an forks are striaght as the eye can tell, even had sum string up to them lol se if they wer bent,, axel is in gd order, lower needle bearings wernt in best condition so gave the whole head stock erea a gd de-greese an re-greese front feels smoother than ever now
a glance round the frame didnt show anything either... im gana go back tomoro and see if i can find the bit of my faring, mite be able to bodge it back on..,, also noticed i could do with new break pads aswel....
anyway cheers for the advice, i feel alot better now after having a gd look around and checking everything.. ____________________ no sig, thats gay!! |
