on ebay at the moment there is a 2003 r6 for £4000 and a 2003 tt600 for £2000.

I know the r6 is probably better but i wdnt have thought its £2000 better.

A guy at a bike shop told me the tt600's are cheap cos when they were first brought out they were crap cos and it took 2 years before the mapping was worked out properly. So apparently now the bikes are good as long as they have been remapped. They are cheap cos their reputation never recovered (he said).

I recently rode a 2005 rs125 and so may have been converted to the idea of riding a newer bikes that is completely unknackered.

From what I've heard (mostly reviews) it's a good bike but with bland looks, a rev-or-nothing engine, very good handling and good brakes. A reasonable second hand bike, but a similar vintage CBR6 (which everyone else has got) does everything a little better (and even though they're so common, look a bit more flash) for a couple of hundred extra.

I couldn't ride a bike which has a headlight shaped by a pair of Y-fronts either.

At the moment they are pretty good value.

Not out and out nutter bike, but definitely acceptable and better than a lot of other stuff available at the same price.

I rode one for maybe 20 miles (with a pillion) and it felt very like my CBR to be honest. The most noticable difference was the throttle, it was a bit on-off but I think you'd get used to it. Not so keen on the looks but that's personal preference.

Deffo a decent bargain bike at the moment, standard sports 600 disclaimer applies - "It's very probably better than you are".

I had one, very good chassis, reckon it handled as good as my R6, very comfortable. The big problem was a terrible flatspot on the engine between 2-3k it would just die then kick in, rest of the rev range was fine. Mine was a 2000 model (the first year) and apparently even with the latest re-map they had the flat spot, I have heard that they got it much better for the 2001 and onwards bikes.

The looks were odd, mainly the front, looked much better from the back. I have seen them in Black and they look much better. Mine looked like a wasp eating 2 toilet rolls Laughing

If you get one, get a 2001 (as said above) or later and ensure it has service history, pay attention to whether the valve clearances have been checked (evey 8k I think) you can google the service specification.

If you want any more info please ask, or alternatively I have an R6 for sale Smile

They are definately an under-rated bike and very good for the money.

Handling and brakes are shit hot - engine not so good compared to the other 600's but still more than enough for the road. Fuelling more or less sorted with the latest tune - which any Triumph dealer can do for about £40.

I have a 2002 model with the 'updated cams' and I can't find a step in the power or a flat spot.

Its about a million times more practical and definately loads and loads more comfortable than my old 955i.

I have ridden an R6, and I would say the engine felt about the same, but the front end on the R6 was somewhat 'twitchy'. This has nothing to do with the speed of the steering, because I can flick the TT over hard, and it responds almost scarily. However it is still on the side of "I can handle this" whereas the R6 felt like "I must trust the bike, but it feels like I can't handle this'. Its a confidence thing I guess.

I got my TT6 for £2800 with 1500 miles on the clock, and I'm really happy. There is pretty much no other bike that I could have bought for the same money that would have given me the same thrills, speed and handling. Or been in as good condition.

Plus the TT6 insurance is cheap, and I think if my bike were parked next to an R6 in the street, I know which one would get nicked, despite its performance being |..| that far off that of the R6.

To sum up, they are generally a bargain.

With one caveat, make sure the recall work has been done, if it hasnt get a Triumph dealer to do so ASAP! Smile

Hi

I have been thinking about one as well. They are absolute bargains price wise.

Reviews at the time seemed to say that handling and braking wise they were the best 600s of their time. The engine got slagged off of hideous flat spots. Later ones did seem to fix the flat spots with different fuel maps, cams and downpipes, but also fell back slightly on top end power.

All the best

Keith

Technically the R6 is a better bike, but is it £2000 better?

The Daytona 600/650 will cost at least that much more.

thnx guys
i think its unlikely i wd spend £4000 on one bike, especially when its my first big bike my limit is probably about £3000 but id prefer £2000 and im tempted to get something for £1000 although this might not be a good idea if i end up paying repair bills.

a tt600 is sounding like a good idea then as a 2003 tt600 is only £500 more than a 2000 thundercat.
