 |
|
Just a thought.
My MOT is due mid winter, where she will be firmly wrapped up in the garage. Getting the odd battery charge and the once weekly start.
So whilst im using the bike , would anyone think it a could idea to get it done now?
Come mid February, I wouldn't fancy the snow and ice on my bridgestones. (Yes we do get snow where I live).
Or should I just wait till April and get MOT and full service then, for next year? (Guess i'd have to ride without an MOT, to get to the MOT place).

Legally you could and CAN MoT you bike/car every month regardless of when it's due, if your silly enough to do that but there is no maximum or minimum time limit to when you MoT your bike. [ maximum being a year of course ]
A MoT certificate is only legally binding to the garage that inspected it for 24 hours, after which it then only servers as proof that you have MoT'ed the said vehicle for the purpose for clerical inspection IE: the police |

As already said you can get an MOT done anytime. The only advantage of this would be if selling a bike where an MOT expires in a couple of months. Getting an MOT before the other one ends gets you 12 months and more chance of selling the bike (people may assume you're selling as it's no chance of getting an MOT without mega cash thrown at it).
Otherwise your plan to wait is valid as you can ride legally to a pre-booked MOT (otherwise how would you get it ). Just make sure you've done some checks beforehand to make sure it stands a chance of passing. Then you'll get an MOT that'll need renewing every April (assuming you get around to it in April). The only other thing you may have to explain when selling is the gaps in the MOT cover (if the buyer picks up on this). Personally I'd be happy with an explaination that the bike's been stored over winter (expiry dates and the mileage would tend to confirm this story).
I've known plenty of people do this and done so myself so that the MOT/service date isn't the same month as the tax.

I need to get tax, MOT and Insurance all renewed early... at the moment they all land week after New Year, which means I'm skint enough already without having to shell out for that lot... gonna have to renew everything in Summer next year so it doesn't land the same again... Knew there was a drawback to putting the bike on the road in 1st week of January That recurring £600 worth of bill ____________________ FAB-Racing MiniMotoSidecars - Back with a vengeance - F1 Class 2011...
