I had the most unpleasany motorcycling experiance ever today.

I had to collect a bike from a customer - around 10 miles away from work. The bike in question was a Virago 535. I did try to find a redeeming feature. I failed.

It doesn't go. It doesn't stop. It doesn't turn. It doesn't sound nice. It's not comfortable. It's too small to pose on.

If you want to go fast, you buy an R1. If you want handling, you buy a GSXR600. If you want a nice sound, you buy a Ducati. If you want to pose, you buy a Rocket III. What do you buy a Virago 535 for?

At least you can use a CG125 to pass your test on!

I'd have one and always wanted one. Stick on a set of screamin' eagle-type pipes and you have an ultra reliable bike that sounds.......good.

A friend of mine has one.

He's put 30k on it in 2 and a bit years, and its been reliable and cheap to run in this time. He can ride it fairly fast if he wants to, although it gets a bit bouncy and rear end moves around a touch. Good on fuel and general running costs, and the shiny bits all come up very nice with a quick rub from an old rag.

It doesn't go, stop, or handle compared to a sports 600. It doesn't look like you can pose on it to a biker, but to a non biker its a harley. It does sound arse.

If you are going to have a virago, make it an 1100. One of the better Japanese cruisers.

You think the 535 Virago is bad huh? You should try riding a 650 dragstar!

Well a good friend of mine has one of these and swears by it. Fits him perfect and has enough get up and go for what he wants. Although I gather the technique is just wind it up and don't use the gears too much. Considering he uses his for a 45-60 minute commute (one way) each day I'd rather take his word on the comfort. I guess the owners club wouldn't be in existance if they hadn't sold so many Rolling Eyes

It's a bike, it may not be for you but I don't see any reason to knock it for that.

Hmmm, I had looked at one of these before getting the enfield but decided against it as I liked the Enfield better for noise even if it did have almost non-existant brakes.
