PostPosted: 16:43 - 27 Sep 2005    Post subject: *Advice* on a XR6 Reply with quote

Hi this is the situation im in, ive had a Peugeot Ludix Blaster now for the past 5months, its been a great ped and ive clocked up 2000km within that time! But now im (bored with it but also) thinking about my future in bike's and i am wanting to get rid of my ludix blaster and buy a xr6! Wink

Im just wanting some advice and as many opinions on my situation as poss, i have read all the threads about the xr6 and it seems to be a great 50cc geared bike! But also another reason that im going for an xr6, is that i can then 'part ex' my ludix as i bought it from new from a peugeot dealer! Cool

Thanks Thumbs Up

ever thought of a 4-stroke 125?much faster than that and reliable.they can take as much abuse as you can chuck at em. i was gonna go for a 50 when i turned 16, but was wisely advised to wait till 17 for a decent bike that will last and is easy to work on.

I got 8months till im 17, but the mephod in my madness is that if i get a 'brand new' geared 50 now! I can use that all the way untill i take my test, which im doing half way through im 17! Which means i then dont have to get a 125cc just keep my 50! As the xr6 will do 60 - 70mph, well a 4stroke cbr will only do 80mph!!! Rolling Eyes

Any 50cc machine restricted should only be capableof 30mph maximum.

Unrestricted, well, that's down to the lies of the manufacturer and whether you believe them.

So what do people think i should do? I realy want to buy an xr6 to get used to gears and clutch more than speed! Are xr6's reliable? Will a new xr6 last me 12months maybe longer? I have read that they are a great 50cc bike, with hardly any people having any trouble with them!!! Wink

From what I can tell, hardly anyone has 'em, so hardly anyone *will* have problems with them. Personally, I'd get an RS125 and just say I didn't understand the law if I ever got challenged over it or something. Hell, I was never restircted when I had my restricted license. Rolling Eyes

Of course you should wait until you 17 and get a 125, but it's your life, and your money.

Just get a second hand RS50 like everyone else your age does.

Sell it and for the same money buy yourself a CG125.

Hardly anyone has trouble with them because hardly anyone in the UK has them. They use the same AM6 engine as most other 50s, so get a different 50 second hand, you will lose less in depreciation then you would from new.

And you won't just derestrict it when you're 17, you will definately want a new bike, 125 or more! You'll be wanting to derestrict it within a week of having it for sure Thumbs Up

Also 60-70? From what I have heard they are slower than RS50's and my 2002 RS50 shows about 60mph on the speedo and thats thrashing it downhill, crouched down! Taking into account that it over-reads this is more like 50-55mph

Hope this helps,
Matt

Thing is though if i bought a 2nd hand rs or xr6, would the peugeot dealer i bought my ludix from give me cash for the bike? And about 2nd hand 50's whats a good milage for a 2nd hand 50, as i dont want to buy one which will go bang once i have it! Thumbs Up

Laughing Somehow I think the police might have a few questions about that...

...'how did you get your 50 to sound so deep?' Razz

Honestly mate don't get a brand new 50, it's a waste of money, you'll lose half your money when it comes to selling it on, no trouble. You can pick up that saving yourself and sell it on at the end of the year at a very small loss or the same money, or in my case, a profit. Twisted Evil

Also search around this site for the CBR125s, they're less than fantastic bikes, a better 4 stroke 125 is a Hyosung Comet, and they look like 500s. Thumbs Up

if you must have a 4t 125..........why not just buy a 2t 125? As for your xr6 though, same engine as my tzr and the rs50, and most other geared 50's minus the derbi gpr. I've seen 95kmh on the clock standard, knock off around 10-20kmh to be more accurate.

dont get a brand new bike
definitely dont get a brand new 50

The gap between a sports 50 2 stroke and a 125 2 stroke, feels similar to the gap between a 125 2 stroke and a sports 600.

There is a difference between maximum top speed given a straight road and plenty of time, and speeds which are easily achievable.

An rs125 can do 100mph which means its good for 80mph+. A 600 can do 140 mph which means its good for 100mph.

Im naughty so I'd be tempted to get a 125 at 16 if I cdnt wait until 17.

I expect the dealer would give you cash for the bike, or cheque etc, but you would be better off selling it in Adtrader, eBay etc.

well milage isnt quite so important with a 50, it's whether it has been looked after properly as most of them are owned by teens (you and me!) who don't bother to warm them up, check the oil etc! But make sure the milage is respective to the age, ie, don't buy a 2003 with 30k, and dont buy a 1995 with 5k because one will most likely be thrashed and the other clocked! (Exclamation Caution, I could be talking bullshit!)

Matt Exclamation

Where are you getting these 600 figures from, eh?

A 1k 600 will easily fetch you 160mph, which means its good for 160mph. Razz

Don't be tempted by these willies telling you to get a 125 now, it's not worth the risk, you'll lose your licence if you're caught, and the police love pulling L plates, as so many are illegal.

If you're after reliability, get a 4 stroke 125, if you're after performance, get a 2 stroke 125. Thumbs Up

XR6 = Cheaply built, will lose value quickly, may be harder to sell as not as well known.

And for the cbr125, it's slow, ugly and doesn't handle anywhere near as well as an rs125.

Stick with the ped, or get a common well known geared 50cc. Then get a decent 125. Thumbs Up
