I don't want my bike to be stolen. So I have to ride around with 2kg of 10ton chain strapped to my bike in an attempt to thwart (I'd f**king 'Thwart' the b4stard ) opportunist scum.
https://www.emapbikes.com/
had a thing in about the best locks. One of them stood up to most attacks and it's not too expensive circa £80. Can't remember the name but it beat the Thatcham approved locks.
We do need good information and standard tests for these things.
I wouldn't test a lock myself if I'd just paid over £100 to buy it. I'd expect it to stand up to some mental torture before giving in.
The Bic Pen opening fiasco was bad enuf.
What is the solution to this problem?
We get hammered by the insurers for 'letting' our bikes get nicked, so we should hammer the lock makers to provide competent devices.
Car makers had to comply a few years back. Big safety/security drive. Agreed this was more a marketing ploy rather than genuine concern for the punter.
I think most of the locks were beaten by simply blootering the lock against the kerb/curb with a 14lb hammer. (Bike thieves should not read that bit )
Warranty should be made to cover lock failure and not just something as puny as rust damage.
If they can't make it work then they shouldn't rip us off selling it to us.
