Okay, I need to ride my bike on thursday to work.
But I'm not going to be insured on the bike until midnight thursday (00:00 on thursday morning), and the bike isn't taxed.

As far as I'm aware, I can't tax the bike without waving a piece of paper to prove I'm insured. This piece of paper will take several days, possibly over a week to come to me.

What do I do? Confused

The insurer should issue a cover note within 24hrs of agreeing to cover you on the vehicle. If not received call them and explain.

That's no good if it takes the cover note several days to arrive to me though is it? Confused

Slap the one from your NSR in. Police don't check them any more as it's all computerised, and even if the DSA were quick enough to jump on you, you get 14 days warning before they pack off a fine to you.

When I say 'Issue' I mean put the paper in an envelope and post it to your address or the one you gave as the address of 'the insured'. Normal business post 2 days (but usually next day)
I know shit can happen if you insure with bumhole brokers.

I didn't mean to sound smart arsed.
I thought you genuinely needed advice.

I can't very well go and collect the document from the insurers for you can I?

Looks like you have to sit on your thumbs.
But phone them and ask where the cert is...

Tomorrow at 09:00 when they'll be open.

Well up to you, but your chances of getting caught for it are so minimal I think I'll offer to pay your fine if you were caught. On the other hand, police will pull you over for not having a tax disc, just for the hell of it.

Otherwise, you'll have to wait for the form to come through, and buy a tax disc.

Oh and for anyone like dom who thinks it's funny that I didn't cancel the insurance on the only method of travelling to work that I had in order to take out insurance on a bike that I didn't own, Middle Finger Evil or Very Mad .

Every time I have bought a tax disc, they have thoroughly checked all of the documents. Don't try to pass off the insurance for another bike! Thumbs Down

Just call up your insurance company and ask them to fax you through a copy of the cover note. They are usually pretty good about this sort of thing. Thumbs Up

Be a rebel Andy, live on the edge and say Middle Finger Twisted Evil Middle Finger to 'the man' who's trying to chain you to the mundane life of all the sad and pathetic 'norms'.
