Because dirt etc will get into the mixture and either mess up your carbs, or possibily even mess up your engine itself Shocked

dirt and crap get in, and unless it's had the mixture tweaked too, it'll probbaly run lean and hot too, not giving more power..

Sports air filters are quite simply shit. They allow in too much dirt and moisture. The foam filters are the worst, as in the rain they get wet, and really cause the bike problems. I know this as I have a foam RamAir filter on the RD, and it bogs it down when pulling off, and is too loud with the Nikkon. I have bought the stock airbox and am fitting it tomorrow.

Just stick with the airbox mate, it'll run much better. Air filters are really only for show.

What bike is it?

Run without the air filter and you should adjust the jetting to suit. You should be able to quite easily find someone in the paddock who knows what they're talking about with getting the fueling set up correctly on your bike. Thumbs Up

Ah I just read it again and noticed it was for a race bike. I would use it, just make sure your carb is jetted up for it.

where did you hear that, in the paddock at the last race? Laughing

leave it where it is, its a 2-stroke and it wont take kindly to uneducated fiddling.

if you take it off it WILL run lean and sieze, and you will be looking at an expensive rebuild.

if its a crosser a filter is a must, as you will see the airbox fills up with shit. It will also run teribble, even if the filter is not oiled it runs poor. For quick gains in crossers. Chain, sprokets, gear oil, race mixture oil, quality filter and oil, carb setup all can lead to a quicker bike.

Err, is it a crosser?

two strokes should go better when hot. Mine always goes better on a humid and hot day, ask anyone else with a two-stroke. they should tell you the sae, cant remember why though.
Tbh mate, no offense, but take a course on bike maintanence or something, cos you dont seem to be doing your bike much good.
If you learn how to tune the carbs properly etc. you'll be much faster and your bike might not seize as often.
