Am wanting to do a track day first one so want a nice track and even though donnington is near my uncle who raced cars for years there said its probably not the place to start.

Am wanting to do it on the zeal which isnt going to be the fastest things so are they different groups?

Snetterton is usually a good bet for a first-timer.

There are always different groups, Novice - Intermediate - Fast.

Can't see why Donnington isn't an ideal place?? Its an awesome place and there isn't that many corners. Its a nice place with plenty of gentle ups and downs. Snetterton to me is a dull place, flat and too many straights, chicanes etc. You will not regret going to somewhere like Donnington. The surface is good too, very good in the dry and there is not one bump, ripple or anything perfectly smooth. Try and do the short circuit over the GP one. The Melbourne loop is just stop start hairpin crap, off cambered and going back onto Goddards is blind. Other than that its fast, flowing and its just a nice track to ride on.

jjonth, as a racer you probably find Snetterton dull.

I did my first trackday there, as did at least 2 others on the forum. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't shut up about it/posting photos for about a month afterwards. I still do every so often.

Snetterton's awesome. It's easy to learn, the facilities are good, and there's a decent run off if it all goes tits up.

I haven't done Donnington, but I presume to some degree the corners are technical, also I believe it's quite wide, which doesn't tend to promote good lines for a begginer.

Most people seem to have enjoyed thier first trackday, where ever it is.
(Though those doing Lydden first time not so much so? - a track that I've found really easy to learn and great fun.)

I wouldn't do lydden as a first track day.

It was the facilities that were nice at snetterton, nice warm garage, at lydden you're in a dusty field on the side of a hill, it just seems like glorified go-karting.

Whereas Snetterton felt like you were really getting something for your money.

Excellent track though, brilliant for a quickish rider on a slow bike who is over confident and begging to crash.

We got there at a decent time for Snetterton.

Get there later in the morning (but still before briefing) and you've got a bit of tarmac to use, admittedly less stony tarmac, but still not much over lydden.

People say Cadwell would suck as a first trackday but plenty people have done it and enjoyed - I don't think it matters where you go really.

cadwell park! Thumbs Up just because its a nice place, and it has a natural feel to it, ive ridden at donnington and i found it trickier than cadwell, though i must admit it was wet when i did it.

brands short circuit isnt bad either, but the simplest track ive been on is llandow in south wales, theres really only one correct line round it, and none of the corners are very complex, so its a good place to start.

if you want to try llandow, theres a guy on here called andy who runs well organised days there, heres his site.

Try Mallory Park in Leicestershire. It's good for novice rider or experienced racer alike.
