Can you have too much security..

I might be getting a little run around from my mate before i get my 400 & if it got knicked my insurance will be sky high, So I live in a high risk south London & i have a front garden (Grass) then a lampost right outside my gate.

What can i do.. Apart from lots of chains, Do disc locks with alarms work good & do bike covers with alarms work good, How do they get round this if they want something. & normal alarms so in total i would have.

2 Big chains one chaining the wheel to the lampost the other chaining the framework to it.
A disc lock(With alarm) A bike cover(With alarm) U-lock.

I cannot get a garage as it would give me no sunlight in my front room & there dear

So i would like you're security ideas for someone like me whos bike will most probably be attempted.

You sound pretty secure already! But if they want it bad enough they'll still take it unfortunately All i can suggest is either buy a plastic shed/shelter (if you got space) to put the bike in, either that or get a big ass dog. Perhaps put up a fake cctv camera ? Worth a try.

I have a very unsociaalble alsation who barks at anything that moves outside (can be annoying) but i suppose this would put em off a bit as i would let her out if anyone was near it.

I can't have anything like a shed as this would block my frontroom light

Does having a immobiliser put thiefs off, Does this mean they cannot start it. If so how will they know it has one.

if you paint a lifesize mural of an rs50 on the side of your bike cover (both sides) that's one one to guarentee no-ones ever going to want to nick it.

well you can never have too much security, just look at sparky's story...well your best bet would be one of those metal shed things, but as you cant get one of those, and you want the height of security, time for an underground garage I'm thinking
Lol no seriously just dig a hole, fill it with concrete and sink something very solid that you can chain your bike to into it, that will also stop it blowing over.

You could also try to wire up some of them flash bang cartridges, you know the ones that are loud as feck when they go off.
And i'd suggest when locking your bike up to leave no slack on your chain, ride tested some locks this month and a few of the chains broke after being hit with a very large sledge hammer! (mine included, cheap crap) So it would be harder for them to smash the chain if most of it is coiled around your bike. Also note that 1 or 2 of the other chains had squire padlocks on them! Says it all i think. I'll be buying one asap.

nope its true, scrapes and loadsa down trdden grass in my garden and my ignition barrel casing in the grass!

it had 2 disk locks, 2 heavy duty oxford chains, steering lock on, ground anchor! how did the buggers manage that!
all locks have dissapeared!

That's mad, Theres so much worry because of these wankers it's not good for you. If my bike did get stolen my insurance will go up to about £4000 which i couldn't do as my insurance has always been high.

You can probably have too much. You have to be able to get on the thing and ride it once in a while.

A couple of big chains securing it to something solid and an immobaliser should discourage the petty thief. If someone is going equipped to get past all that lot, it is gone no matter what you do.

As has been said, the only other alternative is to have it somewhere out of sight, this can be a double-edged sword though as it gives a thief somewhere out of the way to work on your security.

I don't think anyone does covert tracker systems for bikes yet? My boss has one on his Jag. When he puts it in 'park' mode the tracker 'pings' the sattelite every so often. If it detects it has moved off the spot it was parked, it reports itself stolen immediately and its location can be pinpointed to the police. (anybody in the industry reading this?)
