that is this little black box with a 30a fuse in it? (not the fuse board), when i go to start the bike, it makes a funny buzzing noise , and the starter motor wont even turn. Tried jump starting her, but didnt work either. im confused this black box is to the right of the battery, and has 2 leads enyering from the front, and an array of leads entering from the back, there is a 30a fuse in it, which is fine, and it buzzes audiably, and you can feel it, when i press the starter button ____________________ My Bikes - - - Royal Enfield 500 with sidecar, VFR800, CBR600FX,

It's a big switch
Your starter motor needs a lot of current to work, that means thick wires. So that you don't have to have a huge starter button to cope with the thick wires, they put a solenoid in.
The thin wire from your button puts a current through a coil in the solenoid. This coil becomes an electro-magnet that makes a rod in the middle shoot upwards and close two big contacts connecting the thick wires you can see bolted to the top of it, making the starter motor work.
All the other wires that go to it are just using the plug on the top as a junction box.
You often hear them click if you've got a low battery but jump starting across the battery should overcome that.
So if yours is buzzing but not closing the contacts I'd reckon it's Kerry Packered. |
