NConvert

For those that do a lot of resizing images, check out NConvert. It's freeware and available from www.xnview.com. You can perform batch conversions very easily and quickly.

For example, I can go to the directory that contains all my images and type this ...

nconvert -resize 800 600 *.jpg

Fantastic little utility!

And before anyone accuses me of spamming - no, it's not my software - I've only just found it.

There's also a program called XNView there - which is a freeware Acdsee clone.
