After my spill in May on my Fazer I finally got in resolved yesterday by part exchanging my old (2003) Fazer for a brand new one. It had 0.2miles on the clock!!

First impressions are positive - it seems much lighter than the old Fazer and consequently more manouverable. The ride is much firmer - but thats becuase everything is new - although the seat is harder. The front brakes seem to have less bite, but I reckon that's because they are still bedding in - although the back brake has a lot of stopping power. The suspension seems good and acceleration as you'd expect from a 600cc engine. It has fuel injection so no choke!! Also when you decelarate the MPH's seem to drop off much quicker. The gear shift is much much smoother - although the position of the gear lever has changed a little. Tomorrow is the acid test - my usual commute - filtering - stop start etc. In conclusion it feels very different from the last one, which was similar in 'feel' to the first Fazer.

Welcome to the club!

I think it's just you, me and Adam so far.

Mine's my first big bike, so I've got little to compare it too, but I love it to bits. I actually find it easier to commute on than my Aerox 100, which surprised me somewhat.

What exactly have you heard goes wrong?

I've been riding mine for just over a year now, commuting and long distance runs too. After 7000 miles I've not had a hint of any problems apart from those from me throwing it down the road or people reversing into it!

Well done headlamp, at last, someone buying a commuter 600 and going for the best choice! Wink Laughing

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you hand over for it? Be interested to know as mine was pre-regged but brand new out of the crate, be a good comparrison. What reg is it?

Enjoy it. Once you've got it run in (600 miles, which you'll do easily) you'll too notice that there's sod all power below 10 grand! Laughing

I meant "hope it doesnt let you down" as in i hope it meets his expectations, not that i think it'll blow up, should have made it clearer. The reason behind the bad reviews was that it came across quite average, and it got slated for poor brakes. I'll just have to make my own decisions on test rides.

Headlamp - you should find commuting a breeze. I've done nearly 3000 miles on my new Fazer in a few months (including daily commuting) and it's ideal for the job.

As Adam_P says, you'll notice the difference after you've run it in and start using the mid/ upper power band. Thumbs Up

If I recall correctly, the original Fazers got the brakes transplanted directly from the original R1 and hence they are a bit sharp. With the new model, they actually bothered to redesign them specifically for it. At least, that's the way the story goes.

I think I got a reasonable deal. I got knocked off my old Fazer in May and because of a change of management at the garage where I was getting it fixed - it basically remained 'damaged' but very rideable. I rang Rex Judd in Edgware in North London & they suggested that they'll take my 'old' Fazer and sell me a new one. There was a 0% finance deal going and I had 5 months to run on the old HP agreement. So, I traded it and got the new one for £5,299 plus they threw in a Yamaha/Givi Top box plus alarm worth c. £550. I got £2,500 for mine (needing £1,200 worth of repairs) - financed a proportion over 2 years. It now comes with two years warranty.

It's a very different bike to the old Fazer IMHO. Almost sedate - very well balcned - much lighter - a little taller - quieter - and better balanced. The fron brakes don't bite as well. The fuel injection system seems to mean that if you dethrottle the engine loses the revs really quickly - so you lose speed faster too. Also there is a very slight delay when you throttle - a bit disconcerting at first but I'm getting used to it. It's definitely now less sports and more commuter - designed ofr what is its main purpose - commuting.

BTW I've always had a Fazer - the Avatar is because it's a Headlamp and the only picture I could find all those years ago was that one - maybe I'lll change it to end any confusion!! Confused

Finally I'd like to recommend Rex Judd to all that read this post. Good people, very helpful & decent. Thumbs Up

I have one too although a friend is borrowing it at the moment as i have a triumph sprint st aswell. One of the first things i did was get braided hoses and it made massive difference to the brakes. They are so sharp now compared to standard. Cool

Hi , went out this weekend and included a quick stop at Squires. I obviously heard loads of bikes and a few fazers take off. They sounf so smooth and quiet next almost everything else, even other fours with standard cans.

And it's gotta be my helmet that is really loud becuse at anything over 30-40 I can't hear the engine unless I really go for it (which mean's I'm speeding! Wink)

and one more thing, I tried to get a feel of the power but its all over 8000revs.. so that means it's legally inaccessible apart from in 1st gear! (maybe 2nd a bit if on the m'way)

Good points. not an ache in my body after 150miles Wink, easy to go slow, quick whatever. Looks Thumbs Up And can even fit one of me chains under the seat Very Happy
