Rust inside fuel tank.

I got rust inside my fuel tank, anyone know a good way to clean it out? Its not just a common old tank, Its a yzf750. The fuel pump is located inside the tank so I can remove it leaving a hole in the base big enough to fit my hand in. Would the best way be to get in with a wire brush, have a good scrub then rinse out with something?? ideas please...a new tank is about £500

Wire wool (Brillo pad stuff) But rinsing is the problem to make sure you get all the shit out again.

Or paint it with rust convertor, it's supposed to turn the rust into some other compound.

Cue Stinkwheel's method: make a necklace of nuts on a string, and rattle it around inside the tank to scrape the rust off. Rinse with petrol and repeat until the petrol isn't rusty any more.

I've no idea whether it works or not, but I see no reason why it shouldn't.

Couldnt see the nuts taking all the rust off. You need to get a good scrub at it to get it all off.

The wire brush is a good idea, maybe some wirewool aswell.

Petseal.

Definately. Milo gave me some for a mate of mine. It was half a tin that was in his shed for ages. My mate is now happily riding around on his CB125.

It cured the rust and stopped a leak from a split in the tank about an inch long!

Google it and you'll see how it works. There are other tank seal products, but I've only used Petseal.
