 |

Right, I sold the CG last night (£725) so now I'm looking at bigger bikes in earnest. I'm actually having to get the school bus, it can't go on much longer. Now, I know somone who's selling a Kwak ER-5 with 4000 miles for £1200 which sounds like a good deal, and the insurance isn't as bad as I'd expected. The only unknown factor is the cost of restriction. Most delaers I've seen online (Bat Motorcycles, for instance) charge £150 for a kit+fitting if you buy from them and an obscene £200 for your own bike. However, I've seen kits come and go on ebay and the like, and I don't relish the prospect of paying through the nose for 2 small rings of metal.
Is it ok to buy a kit either new or 2nd hand, fit it myself, get it checked by a mechanic/dealer and then get it certified with the DVLA? The prices the dealers charge are rediculous, but is it possible to get legally restricted any other way? ____________________ Living life in the second overtaking lane!

I think the dealer has to fit it themselves in order to give you a certificate, the really annoying thing is it will only be in there for a short time. |

Do your insurance company require proof of restriction?
Find that out first.
If not, buy a second hand set (let me know if you need some and I can give you a few links) and fit them yourself (with my instructions ). You won't need proof if the insurance company don't require it.
So long as it's legal.
If they do require proof, restrict it via a second hand kit and get a dyno print out (£30-45). They will accept this. But always check to see if they will - I haven't heard of it before but some may only require the official certificate.
PM me if you want any info on it, I owned an er5 and restricted/de-restricted it myself |

Yer, On my local training site (Latest software website tech )
https://www.southernridertraining.co.uk
It states the bike must be restricted to 33bhp but doesn't say you must have a vaild certificate.
If i get pulled by police i can't see them saying have you got a certificate mate, If i got a producer i'm not sure |

I've got the certificate for my ZXR, but when I had my spill the insurance never asked for it, and when the copper took my details he put me down as having a full licence.
