10W50 should do the job fine. Only difference between a 10W40 and a 10W50 is that the 10W50 works better over a bigger temperature range.

its the fully synth part that may make the clutch slip.

My TT600 is supposed to run on 15w50, and I'm surprised that you can easily get 10w50...

If its labeled as "car oil" then it will probably have friction inhibitors.. additives that will feck up your clutch good and propper...

If its got a little picture of a bike (or you got it from a bike shop) then you should be ok..

If you got it from a car shop take it back, open the top and throw it in their stupid faces!

a lot have the inhibators, and some dont, its a case of knowing the numbers in the additives explained on the side, there was a site that explained this and i lost the link

however i do know that 10 40 semi by GM in a silver gallon bottle is the stuff to use, i use it all the time, and was tolsd of this by a die hard biker and as time went on i found that loads of people use this

dont use fully synth, trust me, it will give clutch slip, the oil needs to grab the plates to engage and fully synth will not allow that with the antislip and there are to many addatives in it

What type of oil is the 10W40 which is in it just now? If it is semi-synth, stick with semi-synth. If it is fully synthetic, then bung in the 10W50 and be secure in the knowledge that it will make bugger all noticeable difference.

Hi

If it is fully synthetic bike oil then the clutch is almost certain to be fine with it. If it is fully synthetic car oil then the clutch will probably be fine. If it is Silkolene then I would be surprised if it is car oil (not sure they sell any).

I have used fully synthetic car oil in bikes loads of times without any clutch problems. Others have had problems. Seems to depend on the exact brand / spec of oil you use.

Biggest advantage of synthetic oils is that they have less additives, and it is the additives that get get broken down and wear out (the actual oil barely degrades).

All the best

Keith
