But I do have to ask WHY?
I been thinking for the last few days why do so many people ride scooters? Is it a concious decision not to ride a geared bike? Was it just the first and easiest option? I do know at least one guy who started on a scooter and now rides a big bike, I also know one guy who has a scooter, but from what I understand its a pretty quick snazzed up model (divuk).

Thinking about my bike, I love -
The styling
the sound of the race can
the adrenalin rush from the pure acceleration
the fact you ride it not sit on it
the big FAT rear tyre
the fact I could tour europe on it
the way it puts a smile on my face EVERY time I ride!
and of course, the posing value

Im not saying scooters are crap - far from it. I just can't see the attraction. Am I missing something? can someone fill me in!

Cheaper to run - 100mpg+++
Easier to get on and use

If I lived in london *shudder*, and my commute was short, it is what I would use.

Of course, I cannot see any benefits outside town whatsoever.

There's a 'dude' at work that has a red scooter. Never told a soul he had one parks it blocks away from work and hides his lid in the top box (which is nearly the same size as the scoota)

...I just managed to see him one morning when I took the long route to work (nearly fell on my BROS wi fits hehe). Later I asked why he got a scoota and "no a bike"... he told me honestly that his wife wouldn't let him get a bike "they are too dangerous". ""Bugger that"" I told him ""bus drivers (in fact everone else on the road) totally igores the saftey of two wheelers and scooters are IMHO treated alot worse than cycles...""

My scooter seems to have better MPG when going for long journeys, rather than lots of short ones...

I did 60+ miles the other day to the ace cafe and back and i only used just over half a tank of fuel (I have a 7 litre tank) I was pretty pleased with that...

But when i just hop on it to go to and from work, it seems to drain the tank pretty quick

I have had a rs125 for about a year on provisional license. Recently I passed my test and tested out tralbikes, 600's and bigish scooters.

I now have a 250 scooter. Its actually far more fun to ride if you intend to stick to speed limits in 30 mph zones. Its a single so it pulls well at low revs. Its comfy. Its got good mirrors. Its economical. Its good at tight turns such as 90 degree corners like the ones you get in towns. Its ok on the motoway with a big fairing that keeps all the wind off. It would be ok for gentle touring as its so comfy. The 400 scooter was better on the motorway but not as nippy in town.

I'll only get rid of my rs125 if i get a 600 sportsbike as i like something that handles well at speed on country roads.

Different two wheeled vehicles are good at different things.

If I didnt want a scooter for in town, Id have a trailbike. Sportsbikes arent as much fun in town.

I suggest you try a trailbike or a scooter in town to see how it feels. If you dont live in a town, there is no point having a scooter or trailbike unless you are gonna take the trailbike offroad.

VFR750's are nice but better for touring europe than going on a quick blast down country roads or nipping to the shops.

Id nip to the shops on my scooter and go for a blast on my rs125 or maybe a tt600 or r6 or something.

like instigator said, the practicality. If I lived in a city I'd have a scooter, but obviously outside of a city there is no point.

i had to ride a 125 4t when taking lessons and i dont like them.

Id prefer to have a 125 2t or a 2504t( be it scooter or motorbike). A scooter has small wheels so it turns better on sharp turns such as 90degrees like on road junctions.

I've got a old 2 stroke 125 for bezzing round town on! Now thats fun!

If I had to chose between the GP125 and a ped, I think Id chose the GP every time. Why? because its fun! Thats what bikings all about isn't it? having fun? Its a hobby not a chore!

If I wanted practicality, i'd take the car.

I like the colour
I like the styling
I like the comfy seat
I can commute to and from work
I can overtake if I need too
I can go for a ride anywhere I like
Motorways, no problem
The X9 500sl will reach 100mph if I need it
There's plenty of space under the seat if I need to nip to the shops
I can filter without any problem
My insurance is cheaper than other bike's I've owned
My tax is cheaper than other bikes Iv'e owned
I don't have to mess around with the bloody chain it's belt drive
It has good weather protection
It has hazard lights, many bikes do not
There are many other reasons, I like it end of.

Oh and I forgot there fun too.

Get a new moped for the same price as a 3/4 year old geared 50 (a decent one anyway).

My ped's done me well, and has got me into bikes, hence why I now have a 125

So there we have it children. A difference in opinions. It is a frightening prospect, to you chocolate lovers, that someone could choose a pack of fruit pastilles over a crunchie but that is life - we are all unique.

I used my scooter as an introduction to biking. At the time, I had no interest in getting a proper bike, it was a simple means to get to work.

Having had so much fun on it, I took the plunge and splashed out 5 grand on a new Fazer.

I've just started riding my scooter again, after a 10 month lapse. It's even more fun to ride now, with my greater experience and expectations.

A change is as good as a rest. The Aerox gets me to work almost as quickly as the Fazer, with less fuss, and more smirks. It holds my helmet so I can go straight to my wing rather than faff around in the staff block, and it eats far less petrol.

It'd be a nightmare for longer trips, but in town, the Fazer struggles to match it for smiles per mile.

I personally think scooters are fun too!

I currently own a Gilera DNA125, and thats a bloody hoot to ride.
It turns quickly and it accellerates well for a 125cc scoot.

I've found its great for my short commute to work, and I love taking on the motorway in heavy traffic as its a piece of piss to filter on it having no clutch or gears to worry about.

Ok its not a standard scooter really cos its not a step through but its still a hoot.

I am selling the DNA soon though, infact its going on monday as I've decided to go back to something with gears which is easier to work on.

i had a scooter last xmas, was a 50cc nrg sport, tho they may not catch the eye as much as a super bike, they are a hell of alot of fun, and for a 50cc mine did 65mph was brilliant wen cars would come next to me, laughing!!

untill they reached second gear i was ahead all the time

i now have a gsxr not rode it yet, but hope it is just as much fun
