1000cc in winter

I am just thinking about getting a 1000cc but most ppl r saying 2 buy after the winter cos it is easy 2 lose control so is it easyer 2 stick with the 600 cheers 4 any replies

Depends which 1000cc, for a start.

In my experience, winter works like this. The more power you have, the more you are asking of your tyres. And with it being cold and often wet or slippy, it takes more time to get your tyres warm (if they do at all) and as such, the more power you have, the more likely it is that you'll spin the rear up without meaning to.

So the question is, does that bother you?

I'm looking at a K100 for a winter hack, not bothered that it's a litre bike, as you control the volume with the right hand...

Depends if you're thinking R1 or similar to K100.

Litre sports bikes are far from ideal on winter roads. True you control it but it is a pain in the arse.

Financially speaking its a good time to buy a new bike.

Simulate winter driving conditions by applying a liberal coating of lard over your tyres.

No problem.
But be 4 times more cautious as braking distance is not worth talking about. Be ready to stop all the time.
In town is worst.
ltr bike OK. Treated like you would a woman.

My GSXR1100 isnt too bad in the wet, with sports touring tyres that at least have some chance to warm.

Last winter was on an FJ1200 and that was not pleasant.

I rode yesterday in pishing rain on my RS250 and I didn't enjoy it one bit . Span the rear and locked the wheels up about once every minute. Still getting used to the power, last thing i need is slippy roads .

I would say that if you are thinking of buying a bigger bike then the best time to do it is spring/summer. Give yourself some time to get used to it for a while before giving new bike and winter ago. Doesn't really matter that it's a litre bike, I'd say that about any new bike.

I've had an R6 and 3 Blades that I've ridden all year round and not had any problems. It all comes down to you at the end of the day and it's up to you to learn how to control it, same with any bike.

I try not to ride if I feel that the risk isn't worth it, such as snow or bad ice, but then I wouldn't ride any bike in those conditions. I try to learn from previous mistakes.
