Bad experiences filtering?

Ok, as a newbie (to two-wheelers) and a person who did most of his riding on the sand dunes, I really don't like being close to other vehicles. I look in awe at the couriers and DHL guys who drive between the cars going like 40 mph or going through gaps you wouldn't think they'd be able to pass through.

Just wanted to know if you've had any bad experiences filtering and if you've scraped a car or something...did you stop?

I'd hate to face some one who has been stuck in traffic for the past hour after I scrape the paint off his doors.

I had a bad experience. I did stop, when I smashed into the side of the bitch! F*cker pulled out.

I was coming back from Poole to Southampton one afternoon and was filtering between two rows of traffic coming up to a roundabout. I approached a C-Class Mercedes in the left lane and just as i was about level with the back door when the stupid bitch driving decides to open her door and get out and tend to the screaming little brat in the back

I was so busy trying to avoid crashing I didn't even have time to give her some abuse so I went round and round the roundabout until she emerged and caught her up and shook my head at her and she had the nerve to stick her finger up at me!!

Nearly got squashed between a 4X4 and a caravan, I just made it through. It was a jam packed road on a BHM, no turns around or anything, the caravan driver just decided to pull out into my path. If I hadn't been in so much shock, I would have gotten off and given him something to remember me by - perhaps a broken headlight.

Only bad experience I've had was when I clipped someone's mirror filtering through Hackney, said sorry and the bitch tried to ram me off. The worst ones are when people stick the indicator on and instantly pull across, like the fact that they just put there flasher on means they can go without looking. I always cover my brakes when filtering, hurts your leg dangling your foot just above the rear but it's safer.

I have a bit of advice:

If you intend to filter through traffic, do not put renthals on your bike

Inevitably had a few car drivers trying to pull out and stuff but always keep good observation and generally most mishaps can be avoided.

Clipped a wing mirror of a van with my mirrors once, stopped next to him and appologised, and he said
"dont worry about it its the works van"

I've had a few lucky escapes, I am very careful when filtering but I do tend to annoy the other bikers and scooters behind me. Scooters are the idiots because I'm being careful and they get pissed off so they overtake me and they nearly get wiped out because they get careless.

Only problem I have is I start filtering through slow moving traffic, but even when the traffic gets up to speed, I'm still filtering.

I was doing a 90mph stand up wheelie between traffic and someone pulled out on me, luckily I'm invincible and just rode over the top of the car, how shocked were they!

My driving instructor told me when filtering never exceed 20mph and always be observant. Even at twenty the bike can still shoot forward a good few feet before the brakes kick in properly.

I've had someone pull out on me because they weren;t looking, but thankfully I had the brakes covered. The key to filtering is to be careful & observant. Once you get your confidnece up you can nip on a bit quicker however be aware that if someone does pull out on you (which is not unlikely) you will be worse of than the car! ANd if your going fast the policewill frown upon you!

Not since the exhaust got chopped no. Because the car drivers can hear me coming thru now. But as a general rule of thumb I pass thru the middle of cars when they are side by side, when they are staggered there is always a strong possibility the driver will see the gap and not you....

When I pass I blip the throttle and keep the bike in a lower gear, hence making the pipe noisey...

I must admit I've found myself recently filtering through the traffic when it's moving at 70-80mph (if you can call it filtering), but it's particularly bad on the A13 when you hit Rainham/Dagenham because it's so open there the wind blows you all over the place. Scares you a bit when you think about it when your not on the bike, but when your on it you just seem to get on with it. I know a couple of times I must of been very close to cars when going through the gaps.
