A mate's offered me one for £50. I just want a bike I'm not bothered about binning when I try to wheelie, stoppie and KD on it. Anyone know the specs on these and what they're like generally?

The one my mate had was a slow piece of shite, the drum brakes no way could pull a stoppie. Might be a bit newer than his though.

i got one. they do the job. depends on the model - if you wanna do wheelies, the CB250RSA will do them, as will the RSD. the superdreams and dream wont really, too heavy.

knee down wont really happen, because the shocks will be fucked and that just makes the back end pogo, and you try getting to the end of cheap crossply tyres.

they wont stoppy. the brakes are too shit.

they are ok for wheelies, and a lot of fun on dirt or gravel - i learnt how to drift gravel corners at 40 on mine spedway style. then it broke.

but if you want one for fun, there not fun. maybe if you downgear them horribly they will be, but they're only commuter bikes.

the RSAs are meant to be good for 90, mine read somewhere between 65 and 85 (speedo needle just waves around the area.) craig thought i was doing about 90, so it depends if you trust the NSR or CB speedo more.

superdreams are good for 80. in good cond. when my RS was on the way out it only did 55-60.

for 50 quid its an ok field bike, but you'd better off buying some crash mushrooms for your gixer.

Hi

Top speed isnt that bad for a 25 year old 250 4 stroke. They should be slightly faster than the single cylinder CB250RS. They weigh a ton, but much of the weight is in the engine and frame. You wont save much weight. They are fairly reliable as long as you chsnge the oil (1800 miles at most). Brakes are not great

All the best

Keith

250RS is supposed to be faster, much lighter see - by about 20-30 kilos.

Hi

From the Used Motorcycle Guide:-

CB250N
1979-83, 249cc ohc twin, 28hp, 90mph, 50mpg, 280lbs
Balance shafts, clutches and valves can give trouble, electronic ignitions burn out, exhaust balance pipes rots, but usually quite reliable when well looked after. Susceptable to sidewinds, handles badly on worn tyres and once suspension worn wobbles. Engine life 28000~45000 miles

CB250RS
1980-84, 248cc ohc single, 26hp, 90mph, 60mpg, 300lbs
Spoilt by quick wear cylinder head bearings and balance shafts - but sine mildly used bikes go for high mileages. Also goes through disk calipers. Electric start version strips its gears. Barrel base gasket cracks. You have to clenan the gauze oil filter every 7000 miles to get good mileage out of the engine. Lots of ex despatchers in terrible condition. Nice ride quality and good performance for a 250 single. Engine life 15000~35000 miles

All the best

Keith

Mmm, but the avatar is not a CB400NC. The NC had the reverse rim Comstar wheels

All the best

Keith (being very sad, who used to have a CB400NC)

Hi

I had one for about 6 months of use. Nice enough in some ways. Easy bike for cruising on motorways. Handled OK to be honest, quite stable.

I ran a sheep over on mine and didnt come off

All the best

Keith
