Ive seen a bike going cheap which was originally used in Junior Superstock Championships by a race team but was the display model so wasnt used much, and then has been owned by a bloke for trackdays.

It has lightwegiht chain and sprockets, better forks and various other things.

If i wanted to revert it fully to its roadgoing state it will cost a few hundred, but it wont be too much to get a speedo drive and daytime mot.

Part of me thinks I should get a road bike, part of me thinks there is a chance for a better than normal spec bike that will go cheap cos no one else wants it.

Im partiularly interested in people with experience of race prepared bikes such as G, saying how different a race bike will be to a road bike. Would a race bike be too difficult to use for someone new to 600's ?

I would use it for 1 to 2 hour blasts around country roads where agility is most important but power wd be nice. Top speed not important.

I might use it for trackdays eventually.

Its probably been thrashed and crashed at quite a few points in its life.

And a few things could have worn out if it had been neglected at all like some race bikes are.

But if its been looked after and serviced properly it should be as good as any road bike, and could be even better than a road bike if it has been molly coddled.

What bike is it by the way?

Getting the V5 would be my first question.

Hi

Depends what you really want to do with it and how it has been converted for track use. It is not uncommon for brackets to just be removed with an angle grinder, which will be a problem when you need those brackets again to return it to road use.

Check carefully how much it would save you, and remember how difficult it will be to resell in the future.

All the best

Keith

It depends entirely on what's been done to it - you need to find this out.

Some race bikes are pretty standard and would just need lights, clocks and road bodywork.

Some have a fairly standard engine but will have sorted suspension. This might be a good thing, provided you can set it up for road use rather than track.

Some are tuned to buggery and are going to need servicing far more than you want to be considering. Avoid.

Its a 2002 bike with immaculate appearance. It has a v5. Im a bit reluctant to say too much about type of bike it is in case someone else finds it from me saying stuff here.

He claims its never been dropped and it comes with spare set of wheels if I can pick them up.

So if its been thrashed on 15 trackdays with a total estimated mileage of 3000miles, would the bike have suffer more than if it had 3000miles on the road ? Cant 600's take being thrashed ?

Why would i need road bodywork ? Cant i use the bodywork it has at the moment ?

He claims it doesnt need more maintenance than a road bike so I guess he's saying its not higly tuned.

He bought it as an ex-race bike that was a display model for sponsors, and has used it on 15 trackdays since

Depends if you want lights, indicators, more than 3mm of foam to sit on, somewhere to put your numberplate, underseat storage, a tank that locks...

I asked him about the tyres and he says they are treaded but not sure if they are illegal.

does anyone know if Pirelli Super Corsa Tyres are road legal ?

When you can pick up a road TT6 for not much more money, you'd have to be an idiot to buy that, IMO.

Agree with Bendy, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole for use as a road bike.

There were atleast 5 posts by people looking for TT600 track bikes in E&M last week. You better watch out.

they cant have been looking very hard cos a 2002 went for £1551 on saturday, but I wasnt up in time for the end of auction and hadnt tried the gsxr600. I dont like the '98 gsxr600 so a tt600 is looking more appealing.

google tells me that Pirelli Super Corsa Tyres are not road legal.

Has anyone ever had their tyres checked for being road legal or not ?

pretty colour but there comes a point where curvy just becomes fat. having said that id prefer a bike to look awful and ride well. unfortunately it didnt ride too well either

if you want to read my comparison of it to tt600 and thundercat, its the last post in this thread

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=60383

as i was riding it back to the guy i thought of offering something stupidly low in case he is desperate for a sale but id prefer to have something i like. it had good points but not as good as the cat or tt600 ive tried so far

they are road legal. Also road bikes do not need lights if you get a daytime only MOT.
