right, got the bike went to the nearest petrol station and turned the bike off...so far so good. left the pettie station following my mum who turned into a sweets shop cos my lil sister wanted some sweets. turned the engine off BANG (B) it back fired Sad. left there and got on the A54 heading towards the M6. opened the throttle and B B B pop (P) P B P and it cut out so i pulled over and waited screaming at the bike. anyways i started her bike up and carried on staying about 7krpm and exactly 4 km later P B P BP BP and it cut out. i started it up again and carried on this time doing 6Kpm and it took about 8km before it cut out. i carried on again at around 6k but needed to over take this lorry of cars (makes me nervous) so i opended the throttle got to about 80mph and P B PB BPB BP it cut out. BASTARD MOTHER FUCKER. so i set off once more and did 5-6k doing around 50-60mph and it was fine all the way home until i opened the throttle once last time and P B PPB BPB BPB but this time wen i came to a stop it didnt cut out!. anyways wen i got home i realised it was on reserve all the way and i was thinking that maybe the fuel has been sat in tank since b4 the tax ran out (08/02) and that could cause it. what else?? could lack of oil do it? thanks any help is much appreciated as you may tell im well pissed off.

it almost sounds like its running way to lean at high revs or open throttle and just dies.
maybe it needs to be re jetted.
or just some more petrol.

i dont think it sounds like a big job though.

Yep it's either shit in your carbs (blocking fuel) or in the fuel line, bottom of tank. Cleaning the carbs is beyond you, you'll have to book it in.

Could be many things, maybe old petrol in the carbs, a jet blocked maybe? What about the fuel filter have you checked that? I don't think it sounds like an oil problem but I'd put new oil in anyway. It does sound like a fuel problem, when you open it up not enough fuel seems to be getting through, so it may need rejetting.

Wait for Keith, he's your man.

Get that fairy liquid out mate, and a damp cloth, then put a bit of sugar in the tank once you've put everything back onto the bike and it'll flush it through.

jim petrol does loose its bang shall we say after a while as the octane level decreses, but this does take a while...and i would have thought it would take a long time b4 it affects your bike too much......it may just be in a desperate need of cleaning etc i.e carbs etc etc....try some redex Wink

allthough as somebody posted above...it does sound like its running a tad lean Wink

all the best

and as with any grey import, chances are its been standing a long time, in a warehouse, on jap docks, in some jap exporters garage, or in the back of the shop you got it

really the importers should do a whole load of stuff that they never do, so its normally down to the owner, carbs are the biggest pain with my bike, and its still not running right, despite all the hassle

but you'll get there eventually and have it running perfect, as im sure i will Razz

carb cleaner isnt much good, the only way to clean them properly is to take them apart, the AA man put a shit load down my carbs, and it really didnt make fuck all difference, the shop i took it to, took them apart and cleaned them properly, did the job
