My Honda CG125 is playing up. I rode about 20 miles and it was fine then on the return journey after about 10 minutes it started to judder like the fuel is running out, I have a full tank however I put about 1/5 of a bottle of redex in before I filled up. I put the redex in and filled up before I set out and was fine on the way there so I dont think I have put to much redex in thus this problem is caused by the redex as it was fine for the journey there.
It judders along like there is no fuel then all of a sudden the power will kick back in then die to a judder again-when the revs are lower it does not do it as much but it still does it, could it be the piston ring that is on the way out? Anyway if anyone could shed some light and suggest what is wrong that would be great as I need my bike to get to work on. Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Do you have water in the fuel tank?

This happened to me on my 2001 model CG about a month ago... I don't know what the correct solution is but I just waited it out until it started running normally again though.

Don't do that, that's probably a bad idea.

sounds like summat fuel starvation related.

The downside of Redex is that it can dislodge alot of crap and block your carb(s) up.

Pop your carb off and clean it.

Install an in line fuel filter.

Toby R could well have it. Classic signs of water in the fuel are intermittant cutting out and 'pogo-ing'.

Some CG125s have a sediment bowl on the fuel tap. If you have one, carefully unscrew it without spilling the contents and have a look in it. Any water should be obvious as droplets in the bottom.

Failing that, pull the carb and do the same with the float bowl. Water droplets will be obvious to see in the bottom.

If there is water in the tank, putting a little methylated spirit in with the fuel (say 1-200ml in a tank on a CG125) should shift it.

NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO the bike has died on my now, it wont start for squit. I have tried bumping it and kicking it and I get nothing? Any ideas people?

Three things needed to make a bike go. Fuel, electric and air mix.
Suggest you check you're getting a spark (electric). If no spark then trace it back. However, even with a spark it might be too weak. Begin with easy stuff like new plug, working up to ECU.

If you've done as suggested above fuel should be ok.

Only other thing left is to check the carb for any blockages. Be careful though, don't bend anything.

BTW how old is the CG? I'm presuming 12v electrics here.

Yeah I have tried following all the advice for things I can do, I cant do nought with the carb as I am not that technically minded. I will put a new spark plug in now but I dont have a spark plug remover, does any one know the size/code required? Its a 95 reg by the way Thumbs Up

You need NGK park number DPR8EA-9

I can't read... You need DR8ES-L for your reg.

Right I took the spark plug off today and it was black?? Not sure if it was carbon build up or oil? I am going to get a new spark plug tomorrow and see if that works then as I cleaned the old one yet it still did not work. If the new plug does no good and it has to go in the garage how much would it cost for the carb and fuel system to be cleaned out (rough guess)? Thanks Thumbs Up

youll prolly need to replace your air filter.

carboned up and black means too much fuel not enough air typically.

A old blocked up air filter can cause this as cana dead squirrel in your airbox.

Right I put a new spark plug in and still no joy. My local garage have quoted 95 quid just to clean the carbs and such! I dont know what to do as I need this bike for work tomorrow.
Some one said it could be the air box- can I clean this out and where is the darn thing?

Thats the one the air filter, where is this on the bike, what does it look like and how can I clean it?

I don't suppose they've changed the CG radically, but FWIW this is for the Brazil model.

Remove right hand side (as you sit on the bike) panel.
Under this is a plastic moulded lump.
Undo the screws holding the side panel to this on (don't loose them) and remove the panel.
The filter is sandwiched between 2 metal grills. Remove. Make sure you note which way round things fit. The filter is like a sponge.

Then either clean out the filter (was out in petrol, allow to dry and then soak through with clean oil, but don't get it saturated) or just replace.

Put everything back in the reverse order you removed it.

FWIW while the filter is out you could always start the engine and then spray carb cleaner through the airbox opening into the carb (engine may splutter and/or die, don't use too much. Also don't be tempted to use the spray brake cleaner instead).

Cheers for that mate I'll give that a go in a minuite. If it still wont start after that will it be a blocked carb or fuel line? I dont know what to do next as I cant afford to pay 95 quid just for the carbs to be cleaned out. Any way thanks for the help I'll give it a go Thumbs Up

Right my mate took things apart and says the fuel is getting through and I checked the air filter and that was fine (he said it was in good nick too) then we checked the spark plug (the new spark plug at that) and he said that was fine??? I have spark, air and fuel yet it still wont start? Could the piston ring or piston be gone? Please help me or I wont be going to work tomorrow Sad

um, if all fuel, spark and air is ok you could be looking at a more serious problem.

Could it be the piston rings? Could there be a lack of compression eg the piston or piston rings need replacing? Sad

make sure the pilot screw is set correctly-if its set too ricvh the motor will chug and flood.

turn it all the way in, then turn it 1 1/2 turns out and go from there.

Cheers for that map I have printed that out Thumbs Up , some guy come around and looked at my bike and said the coil is busted thus it is not firing. How much will this cost to get fixed at a garage?

If the coil is shot, then you would not get a spark.

previously you said you had a SPARK, fuel air etc.

So do you actually have a spark from the plug or not?
