I had just picked up my 125 from the local dealers and was headed to another bike shop to get a mirror for my cbr.
So anyway, after being on the road for no more than an hour! My 125 looses power [with a big lorrie behind me] and it cuts out!! so i had to free-wheel into a layby.
Now this is in the middle of the countryside, and im bloody freezing, then i notice as i try to restart her, that there is a large pool of oil under my bike!! So here i am, lying under my bike, in just a t-shirt so i dont cover everything in oil, and i hear a bike, so i look up, and he looks at me,,,,,an goes on ahead. Then another , and another!! in the end 4 bikes had passed me, [as well as countless cagers] while i was stranded, armes covered in oil, lying under my bike!!

Now i dont expect cars to stop for me, but i thaught that a biker would have seen i was in need, and stopped to help.

all i would have needed was for someone to go up the road 1 mile and ask the bike shop there to recover my bike. Sad

Sorry to hear that - it must have been the same 4 bikers that rode past me as I was pushing my bike up a hill, red faced and shaking. They didn't stop either, one of them even went past twice!

Sorry for the problems you had, I always stop for other bikes...

Next time you're in this situation, place your lid upside-down on your gloves, in a position for other bikers to see it. Then, when other bikers approach, give them the Thumbs Down signal. They'll understand you're in difficulty.

It might just be that, since you made no signal to them, and it looked as though you were getting 'stuck-in' they never realised you needed help.

In my experience, I've found every passing biker to be interested when I've been parked up at the side of the road. Even when I stopped for a 'fag' break on my CG125 with 'L' plates, whilst waiting for some friends to catch up (because they'd taken a wrong turning). The bikers looked across at me, I gave them the Thumbs Up signal and they knew I was OK. If I'd given the Thumbs Down signal, I'm sure one of them would have come to my aid.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear about that. It's bad I know. A couple of weeks ago we were out and saw a guy pulled up at the side of the road. Checked that everything was OK and carried on. Few miles further down, our bike overheated but no-one checked to ask why we'd pulled over Rolling Eyes

We're not all tossers mate!

The other day I was riding around, saw some guy pushing his scooter along the road and I came back on myself at the next roundabout and asked if he needed a lift home or anything. Luckily he was about 20 seconds from his house and declined, but I'd do the same for anyone I see. If I see someone at the side of the road I usually do a thumbs up to check they're OK, and I'd hope they'd do the same.

You've lost the plot (unless I'm missing something and what you said was mean't as a joke).

We ALL need help at some time or other.

You sound like one of those bikers who wouldn't have given a flying f**k and continued on your merry way without a care (maybe you were one of the four bikers who never helped).

You only know the bike shop was a mile away because SavageKymco mentioned it in his post.

Have you ever tried pushing a bike for a mile ?

nah i was only joking, of course i would have stopped, but the problem is i live in spain but im still learning spanish and dont speak much, so everytime my bike breaks and someone comes along, im thinking "shit please dont stop" purely cos i wouldnt know what the hell to say to em! And for this reason aswell I dont stop to help anyone else, I would if I knew what to say.
(Oh and yeah actually I ended up pushing mine over 5 miles home up a mountain road, most people I know who ride 2-strokes have had to push their bikes ridiculous amounts of miles, all comes with owning bikes that break alot. Still not sure about your hand signals though, try the thumbs down thing and see if they stop)

some people might not pull over cause u could be tricking them in to stopping & then jacking them (& yes it does happen) cause say someone was pulled over looking all genuine like they HAVE broke down then you pull over & say need any help mate then suddenly couple of ther blokes come out from a side, bush, etc & grab your keys then all breeze off on the "surposidly" broke down bike & NOW YOUR bike & now whos the one left stranded. YOU! so i'd only pull over if it looked safe enough like no dodgy looking area were there pulled over

Believe me its still give or take. Ive broken down more times then youve had hot dinners, and bikers adopt the 1000feet stare in the other direction.

Kinda like when a fight kicks off, the wall suddenly becomes very interesting.

Ive stopped and checked vague inklings of distress on numerous occasions. Whilst im agnostic i fiercely believe in karma. Or i at least hope it exists. Ive had a pretty shitty life of it so far, probably grass is greener instances. But ive always tried to help out as much as possible.

Sometimes tho, much as you would love to help, you are too busy. So you go on your way, concentrating 100% on the road ahead.

Never forget, we arent the freemasons, we are just people who get wet when it rains and can beat any car on any bike.

Thats how it is. Live with it.

ps. IF you had an 05 gixxer i bet they would have stopped.

Once again sounding like an old git but I've found that this now seems to be the general attitude of most bikers. I doubt many would have a clue when it comes to basic mechanics and many will not have had a pillion on their bike. A few of my good friends are guys I've met in laybys (sounds a bit dodgy Laughing ) over the years. Doesn't matter if I'm on the bike, in my car, or just walking down the road, if someone looks like they are in trouble then I will ty to help, so far this has resulted in being stabbed three times and having a gun pointed at me once (in tesco's of all places Shocked ) but I would feel less than human if I reacted any other way.

Three different times, comes from growing up in the center of Birmingham. This was when I was a lot younger and possibly a bit more stupid than I am now. Luckily none were particulary serious, one arm, one leg and one hand. I used to hang 'round with some bikers, most of them pretty decent people, there was no way that I could watch any of them get beaten up and just walk away.

This is obviously one extreme end of the spectrum, I have never had any problems when I've stopped to help someone who has broken down irrespective of the type of vehicle.
