Ahhh the age old question of which bike

Right after the shocking dt that i was shown my old man decided to go down to the showroom and look at new bikes. For some reason my dad is being very generous and offering to buy me a new cg125 or en 125 however being the vain bastard i am i like the purdy cbr which aslong as i can pay £300 extra i can have.To get to the point is it worth me paying the extra £300?Oh and any ideas of anything better i can get for under £2500 that isnt a trial bike...i still feel far to short sitting on them!

125's just aren't worth buying new imo. The CG with 15k miles on it for £600 will do just as well as a new one, and will not depreciate much, if at all. If you're after vain but actually want something which shifts, look for a NSR 125.

If you have to go for a new one, which I wouldn't recommend anyway, don't for the love of all that is holy go for a CBR. Some people like the looks, I've never understood that, but the one thing that is common opinion is - they're shit.

i agree, dont get a new bike, and dont get a cbr125. If you want a 4 stroke 125, Id recommend a cg125 but its not as pretty

You can get a very nice rs125 or nsr125 (both pretty) for that money and although not brand new, it will be new enough to not have any problems. I recommend ebay as a price guide even if you buy something not on ebay.

NSR is better in town and RS is better on country roads.

You should also think about the dt125 as they are meant to be great fun and a bit more reliable than the rs125 or nsr125. Not tried one myself though.

insurance on a 400 at 17 may be a wee bit steep for me.NSR's seem rare with lowish milage and within a reasonable distance from the southwest.but ill take it in and not get a new bike and keep my eyes peeled for an rs(or with a hell allot of luck nsr)lol cheers guys

Nothing wrong with a CBR125, not the prettiest nor is the performance very good. But its an alternative to the cg. Its up to you to consider wether £300 for a bit more plastic. Because the cbr 125 is just a front and rear disc'd, more plasticed (excuse spelling) CG 125. Not much difference in performance between CG and CBR both will do 70 mph tops.

If you buy 2nd hand id reccomend.

If you get a brand new cbr, try get them lower than the RRP, i got mine for £1800 with Sidi boots and new gloves and waterproof pants

cg125 rides nice
i dont like sr125. I dont like cbr125 either but its not as bad as sr125

ebay will have some rs125's and nsr125's not far from exeter

they tend to need a rebuild at about 14000 miles so buy before then or make sure they have has a rebuild

id recommend trying bikes before you buy as it gives you a better idea of what you will like than just looking at them.

If your dad buys you a 125 new, will he be able to buy you a bigger bike new when you move on ? If not, get him to buy a slightly cheaper 125 now and save some pennies for if you want to move up at some stage.

Today I looked at a £2500 '98 R1 that I can afford because I didnt spend too much on my first bike.

You can buy a hell of a lot of bike for your money with £2500 once you have passed your test. Although an R1 would be pricey to insure until you are a bit older.

CBR are good for wgat i need. Things with cbr 125 is there too skinny, the tyres look really pathetic and the performance is just like the cg. But its an option if you dont like the look of the cg.

Theres some bargains on ebay tho.
