Hi

Just tensioned my chain today on my R6 as it seemed like it needed doing. Thing is, I Would normally expect it to be around 20mm average slack on the chain when done correctly but in the haynes manual for it, it say 45-50mm?!! This seems too slack to me, and an ex-bike instructor who I got a second oppinion off.

What do you think ? Leave it at the 20mm slack I have it now or put it to 45mm like haynes say? I will say one thing, since doing it, my ride today I noticed a whuurring noise from that area even while riding it - and I do have a noisy illegal exhaust to!

Thanks

darren

I think it's because when you sit on the bike it will be tighter anyway, or is that 20mm when you are sitting on it? My chain on the bandit looks really saggy but when i sit on it it's spot on.

The 50mm odd will tighten up some what when fat arse is in the saddle, or at least it tightens when my fat arse is in saddle.

Only a thought...

Think like this......50mm slack goes to 20mm when you sit on the bike...So 20mm slack goes to 0mm when you sit on the bike Shocked Now what happens when you go over a bump? Neutral Its only going to get tighter...Bent output shaft or snapped chain anyone. Crying or Very sad

thanks for your help guys. Turns out when I thought it needed doing, it probably didnt! I had it on the paddock stand which would make it slack anyway, and I thought 20-25mm would be right - hence when it was more like 40-50mm, I thought it was too slack!

Anyway, Ive put it back to how it should be which turns out, its back to the original position! Lesson learnt!! lol

So yeah - 40-50mm like haynes say Smile
