Not sure if I just don't understand how engines work or what, but how does a single piston engine work? I mean, what makes the piston rise again after the mixtures exploded? In my head, I want the piston to sit at the bottom of the cyclindar. Perhaps the pressure changes when the exhaust valve opens a bit, but I must be missing something. Someone fill me in please.

Sorry for the n00bish question.

momentum carries the crankshaft round and forces the piston back up the cylinder.

Have a quick look at this site https://auto.howstuffworks.com/

It'll tell you all the basic principles behind most things.

Having only ever known and loved IL4, I (wrongly?) assumed that when the other pistons fired, it used some of the energy to complete the cycle. Thanks for the link and setting the record straight in my head. Smile
(Karma awarded tomorrow, as I'm out at the moment! Sad )
