just got my first ever bike yesterday Very Happy . (NSR125). Having been out on it all weekend I couldn't help but notice that all other bike riders gave me a wave on passing.

Strange but pretty cool!

I feel as if i'm in some sort of cult now. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

You'll find that every bike rider but scooter riders and harley riders will do this.

It's a sign of respect and a general hello - You have joined an elite club with a select membership.

Welcome to the club, don't drink too much and remember the peanuts are free.

We just all stick together really - help each other out - the guys and girls on this forum are mostly nice and friendly and will offer advice when asked.

Welcome again and good luck with the bike - it's a good first choice of bike. Smile

Welcome to the gang!
I hardly ever get nods (I'm on a scoot), although when i borrow a hire bike from my local training school then that usually sorts out the problem.

Yeah I got my first bike at the weekend too, an NSR like yours.

I was suprised how many nods and waves you get, especially when people overtake you!

I just need to find where people with bikes around North Notts/South Yorks go on weekends - anybody know of any rideouts around my area where us newbies are welcome?

I find the harley davidson type riders only reply to waves Smile

So nod at sports/ scrambler/scoots

wave at harleys

flash your lights if they have a really mint bike Razz

Thats how i do it anyway... if im feeling really enthusiastic and want a nod i occasionally do all three Cool

And remember if the scoots dont nod back its probably because they dont know about the 'cult' yet... give them chance.

PostPosted: 17:44 - 03 Mar 2003    Post subject: Beechy - My 2nd new NSR Reply with quote

Hi
I pick up my new '03 plate NSR this Friday. This is my 2nd NSR from New, my first I part-exchanged it against a new CBR600FS in December, you may ask why I am going back to another NSR. In January my CBR was stolen from my locked garage, the alarm was armed and the bike locked to a floor anchor - the bastards still took it!!. The insurers have just agreed to pay out, less a massive £450 excess and a unfair de-valuation.

What with the big insurance costs, and the high risk, I have decided to go back to the NSR. I am planning to have it de-resticted after 500 miles and tuned up. I will decide late summer if I should buy the new CBR600RR.
Anyways, looking forward in getting back on a bike, even if its a 125. Can't wait to get back onto the open roads and into biking again. Some nice places around Leicestershire, such as the decent road to Rutland Water (A47).

welcome to the forum

nodding is good, unfortunately people tend to get more miserable the closer to london you go, i live right on the edge (closest town too london without being in it in this area) just before you are technically in "greater london" so quite often around here, you get ignored, but once i head north, it gets all friendly again, nicer roads up that way anyway Smile

welcome ttf

I nod all bikes xcept harleys and scooters, even old vintage bikers usually nod. I don't flash lights, coz I usually take that as an indication of police ahead or something else like I don't have my lights on.

Welcome.

The biker Camaraderie is good but its more than just nods and waves stoping to help a fellow biker if they look like they are having problems is an important part of it to - one that a lot of people seem to forget.

Did get a nod of a police biker the other day who was traveling in persuit mode in teh opposite direction - made us giggle Smile

Welcome mate Laughing Cool Very Happy

I always nod to other bikers. But moped/scooters don't seem to like (geared) bikers round my area, so there is no nodding to them Laughing

I pass the same boring commuting sods every day and none of them ever nod back to me. On the other hand on the rare occasions when someone does nod I feel all happy inside! Laughing
