Hi,

Could someone recommend me a decent one? To fit a CBR600F. I bought a cheapo one from HG and I'm now reciting in my head 'you get what you pay for'.

Cheers.

HG do (or did) a decent one. Called a Tyvek cover it looks a bit like a space blanket. Pics from this thread:

I've got one and it's lasted well, no hassles. I'd recommend it.

I've also heard good things about the Oxford Stormex covers. That'd be what I'd replace mine with eventually (if it's not broke why fix it). Best prices I've seen for those are on eBay.

HTH Thumbs Up

i use a cheap £10 oxford one as its light and can carry it in my rucksack and use it at work, but it does seem to get condensation on one side of it.

I also have an oxford rainex (or something like that) its a bit bigger, heavy and thicker so i tend not to use it that much.

Tyvek are either the people who make it or the stuff it is made of, I use Tyvek envelopes at work cos they're tear-proof.

Not convinced about this get-what-you-pay-for thing though. I bought my bike cover from Lidl when they had their bike-gear week earlier this year, paid £8.99 for it and it's brilliant.

If you read the top photo on the side of the label it says Tyvek is a registered trademark of DuPont for the material (I can't make out the long polypropelyne name).

Confused Thinking doesn't that make them difficult to open Wink Razz

HG do sell it as a Tyvek cover, £33 for size over 500cc (not touring/cruiser).

Hi map, yeah Tyvek envelopes are a bugger to open. You need scissors or a really sharp blade, fingers or an ordinary paper-knife won't do it. However they are also water-resistant so I would think any bike cover made from the same stuff is going to be pretty decent.

Don't DuPont do non-stick pans, or something, too?

du pont dont make the pans, but have patents and trademarks on many many cool materials, like Teflon etc which other companies use on their products.. that'll be why you see the DuPont logo on so many things.

Those look quite flimsy TBH.

I paid £40 for an Oxford one, quite heavy duty, clips under the bike, elasticated bottom to hug the bike, got holes at the bottom for pegs or extra straps. Thick to so it doesn't rip easily.

I use an Oxford Rainex one, cost me £20 from eBay and it's been pretty good so far, had it about 3 months and it seems to be standing up well to being just yanked off the bike.

I bought the Tyvek one about 18 months ago (not from HG) and there's a big rip in it and the outer material is starting to break up. It's not lasted as long as I thought it should.

Now your asking! Only just threw the bag that it came in, out at the weekend.

Looks just like the pic...

FWIW had mine slightly longer than that (bought from HG). It's been abused a little and put on a warm bike but so far no rips or tears and the outside is still holding up. As said, based on my experience I'd recommend it.
