 |

I'm thoroughly depressed. I was taking a friend out for a spin on the back of my RVF400, having a bit of fun and making a lot of noise. Anyway, pull up to these lights with this posh looking dude in a beamer on my right. I have no idea what make it was. Anyway, he starts revving and so I give in (weak I know) and decide it's a race. I would say I'm quite a good starter, but this guy had a few lengths on me by the next lights! I was so depressed I had to stop! I haven't been beaten off the lights since I was riding a piaggio scooter years ago, let alone a beamer, they don't know the brake pedal from the accelerator! What to do!!! I recon it was totally tonned up under the bonnet, but is this really possible? Please tell me someone feels my pain... |

M3 or M5 in their race mode would thrash you after a short way, they are amazing cars, 2 year waiting list on the new M3. |

If it has grills about half a foot above the front wheels it was a M.
3.2 litre i believe, 0-60 in about 5sec hit 155mph limiter
If it didn't have a grill, then youi should be ashamed. Get your ass back on that Piaggio |

ha ha, thanks kb-zxr, but we looked it up on the net and its a M5. I still am a little sad, but maybe need more practice with a pillion starting.
Siggi, let's not be sizeist. My 400 can beat a vast majority of 600 on twisties, what's wrong with that? I don't see the point in anything more in cities, just more reason to crash into the back of something
philcxiv, and what's saying my left hand can't perform a millisecond change? Or maybe not. Sounds scary. That someone would be willing to buy something like that, I think it's a bit overkill with F1 technology and all that.
Anyway, all I can say is "a pound=one pint" and not piss may I add. Goodnight! |

You'd need to be real good to beat an M5, I've test driven one and they're fecking quick, even on a par with my 600 Thundercat, and zero wheelspin!
If I had 100 grand to spend, I'd have one
...and an Augusta F4 Tamburini with the other 50 |

I think i disagree with this. I saw a BMW M3 newish version, today while at work. He had to give way to pass my parked van, and then i watched the driver boot it down a straight bit of lane, for about 250m. I think he started in 2nd or something, as i was not really that impressed with the initial acceleration, tho it made a surprising amount of noise from the 4 exhaust pipes. I have to say that i reckon it pulled away and increased speed no faster than an average 2litre turbocharged car like a Rover 220, Sierra Cosworth, or Astra turbo etc. I don't think that in a car of that weight that a tuned 3litre nasp engine even with 300+bhp has that much bottom end shove, and like alot of highly uned nasp cars it would only probably maintain a good pace on the track when you can use all the rev range and keep it in the power.
As for beating it on a 400, well really you should have only tried when riding solo, as subjecting a pillion to a full power start is a bit naughty, and it does ruin your ability to get a good start with the front wheel staying down. I almost raced a ferarri F355 spider from a set of lights once on my zx6, but i let him go first, and i was only revving to about 9k through 1st and 2nd gear to stay right behind his bumper. I didnt want to try a full on launch in case i got it wrong so i only pulled away at 3-4k as well. |

As said before probly an M3 or M5.
But all the new beamers have a Traction Control button for better performance that adds on an extremly large amounts of BHP from standard
I ride a 125 and try and play games with fast cars! they all take the piss right out of me, but i just laugh it off as its all fun!
At least it wasnt a V12 Bentley is suppose! you would still be at the lights as hes stoped for the next set

did the m3 leave 2 black lines?
if not then he didnt actually boot it.
an e46 m3 is so much quicker than the 2 fwd shitters you mention and it will be a good 2wd cossie thats quicker.
and as for the 355 it was probably an over dressed mr2(so many of them about)they take a mk 2 mr2 and add weight so performance suffers.
however if you are on the case on a 400 race "style" bike you should leave 99%of cars standing at the lights.
and probably leave 20% of the cars that actually try. |

Erm good point there, as no there were no black lines, and with the cost of those tyres i doubt he'd want to boot it too much anyway. I thought an M3 should be so much quicker than that, and i guess he either:
a) didnt really boot it, (though from the sound and noise it made i thought he was trying).
b) was in 2nd gear, and or had the TC system switched on.
Id be interested to see how fast an M3 can go though, as ive been in both a Sierra Cossie, and a Rover 220 turbo, and been fairly impressed with the acceleration. Id not call either of them shitters, when they would piss all over my car anyway!
As for the F355 being an MR2 kit car job, i don't think so mate. This guy was next to me at the lights and revving engine for long enough for me to know it was no MR2. I don't think anyone could mistake a Ferrari engine for an MR2 really? when he pulled away he slid sideways slightly and had a fair bit of wheelspin too. I was maybe 3car lengths behind by taking a slow start, but i had'nt got into 3rd before i had closed the gap to nothing. I backed off at 85mph as it was a 60mph road.
By the way ive been taken for a spin in an MR2 turbo that i was told had 265bhp, and though it was very quick, (brilliant for a 2litre car) it was nothing like bike performance. |

Don't worry about it.
Think about how much that ugly nazi staffmobile tin can cost, how much the insurance is and how diabolical the fuel economy is.
Now think of your bike...fast, light, efficient, doesn't get stuck in traffic...etc
If you really want to humiliate them, wait till they get stuck in traffic and get your pillion to do a Hitler salute when you filter past. Drives them livid |

LOL, there is only milliseconds difference between 600/750/1000cc bikes at 0-60 speeds, which puts it mostly down to rider control. I think your phrase, 'or even a 600' is a bit patronising!! Lets face it a 600 sports bike will take the mick out of most cars from 0-60, German, Italian or likewise.
Adding 60-80kg to the back of a 400 will have more of an effect than you might think.
How close together were the lights?? If they were fairly close, then it's more likely he got a good start, and you were just crap! (which would be understandable if you had someone elses life on your hands) |
