street fightering an R1.
what a ball ache.
i have an old r1 with a "worn faring" so the urge took me,and after a load of plastic removal i set about the conversion.
i sent away to company x for the top yoke kit and pipes for the whole job.
bits arrive and the yoke is perfect, the new braided brake lines are just right(take an age to bleed but all good in the end)
ive had to cut a load of cable out of the loom to make things fit and still look good(ie not miles of wire bunched up behind the lights).
main problem was the throttle cables.the kit says the original r1 cables are ok for the job(they are ok as long as you dont go left, tooo short)
so i got a pair of cables of an xjr 1300 same ends just a bit longer than the r1 standard.(its good to have a friend who is a bike breaker).
so i now have an r1 in the shed with twin lamps, straight bars, braided hoses and a ton more work to do.
i have a chrome radiator cover but it looks crap so im going to paint it black i also need to find a radiator expansion tank that isnt an ugly plastic mess.
other than that all i have to say is........
an r1 on straight bars is a pisser Smile Smile

the idea is to keep it in the yamaha blue but with no decals and mat black on the rad, lights and other show stuff.
but it will be a ride a lot bike and and not a show machine so looks will be sacrificed for function in places

i have noticed on ebay that r1's that have been street fightered no longer have a working fan as its controlled by the clocks which you remove

you might have to rig up an on off switch for the fan so it doesnt overheat in traffic or whatever

You gotta share some pics when you're finished, is it an '05 r1? I like streetfightered race bikes - they look the bollocks! The B-king concept is an example of how i like em - lookin mean! (only without the upswept tail end shite goin on)

nah its an olde worlde 1998 write off.
the conversion is being done on the cheap.
if the whole thing costs more than £2000 (including the bike and not including the plastics that i will sell on)at the end then ill be upset.
