Doing 40 mph on a 40 mph road and copper steps out into road chasing a scally drunk, didnt have time to react, just pressed my brakes, luckily i just hit him slightly and knocked him. He's ok just a bit bruised. Not sure what its gonna cost to repair the bike,

Right mirror is bent, top right hand side of the fairing is cracked near the wind shield, right footpeg is bent, scratched exhuast can, right indicators are stuck on, throttle seems to stick sometimes and the tank has a big dint.

What you reckon we're talking cost to fix it?

Im oki, apart from a really sore hip and headache. Had all protective gear on.

Just glad the coppers ok. He was really apologetic and i was back to him, first thing i asked was how he was.

just gutted about the bike

I agree with mrtee

the policeman should pay to repair your bike

If someone pulled out in front of you in a car you would expect them to pay for any damage or their insurance pay.

Problem is if you push it, the policeman might turn into a twat and make out it was your fault and then it would be a policemans word against yours.

I would at least have asked him if he would like to cough up though.

Everyone says i have a case. I mean i wasnt speeding, if anything i was well below the limit, doing about 32/35 mph on a 40 because it was wet,and i was slowing down, he didnt look, the scally he was chasing saw me, so i braked then he stepped into me as i tried to brake before hitting him.

I haven bent bars

Knacked mirror,

dent in tank

Bent peg

buggered front brake lever and fluid holder

Need new upper fairing (nose and windshield)

New end can

Talk to a solictor or legal person and see where compo will come from and the procedures to get it.

Hopefully he hasn't filed any paperwork against you, but I'd want to make sure he couldn't get vindactive. They are people, so like in all walks of life, some aint as nice as others Sad.

Quick question, if my bars are bent does this mean write off???? They're not noticably bent if you just look, they just feel different.

I feel so angry and keep asking why? Why step out into a busy major road, during the evening, with black not very visable clothing (typical police uniform, white shirt and armoured black vest and black pants) and he just stepped into my path without looking.

Im so angry, i am in pain, ive chipped my hip, sprained my shoulder, taken 4 Tylex Pain killers and its throbbing like crazy. Was in shock before, but now im just sooooo angry, why walk into a road without looking, fuck the pissed up abusive little shit in the stripy jumper. Thinking about it, if id of hit the traffic island, id of broken bones or probably died, hit my head very very hard.

Bent bars don't write a bike off
Only a bent frame or the repairs cost more than the value of the bike would.

Frames oki, not a scratch, most of the impact was on the bars, they dont look bent but they feel different, and the throttle sticks sometimes, mayber its just because the brake lever and brake fluid holder has be moved, the brackets screwed. No frame damage, the bars, mirror, bar end, brake lever, right side indi's and foot peg took the brunt of it.

Get them sorted and the fuel tank, and then next month get a micron can. Just the cans a bit scratched, probably about £500/600 pounds worth of famage, Tank and Nose fairing will be the most expensive and if bars i reckon 300 pound???

Hi

Although you might have a case, claiming against a pedestrian will be difficult. You have a duty of care and the assumption will likely be that you were at fault.

If you want to claim then I suspect you really do need to speak to some legal bods.

All the best

Keith

Sorry to hear about that one mate. Equally sorry to hear about the bike. Hmmm perhaps vicarious liabilty claim as is it in the course of a policemans duty to run out into a busy road? Speak to a solicitor definitely.

I would talk to your insurance. I would imagine they would then make a claim of the police force rather than the policeman in question. End of the day you probably saved his life so I see no ill in trying to compensated.
